Drive crashed yesterday, lost Emby - struggling to set up

Hi,

I am facing several issues which occurred yesterday. While I watching a film on Emby the film suddenly stopped, I received a message saying my storage pool had crashed, and I was forced to wipe it - I have 2 drives in my Synology and Storage Pool 2 is still intact.

I have tried installing Emby but haven't had any success in accessing my content. I also cannot seem to use it on my laptop, my phone, or any device except the TV I was using when it crashed. On the Smart TV I also can't access the content except when I open Emby it lists my server name 3 times (none of them seem to work though). This is a disaster and I have no idea what to do.Emby3.thumb.jpg.e6595eeaf84d0a7b7fe433045ebb3ef9.jpgEmby1.thumb.jpg.e2d4ec4cff5b3c200cb301ab831612b2.jpgEmby2.thumb.jpg.f1e1d5c0585771d77f9e758f5707888a.jpg

Can anyone please help?

Hi, what exactly do you mean by this? What content?

Posted

I mean accessing anything on Emby - photos, films, series, etc

Ok. Where are your photo files, film files and series files? Are those still reachable in the file system?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problem.
Did you have a backup of the crashed drive?

Which storage pool crashed? Was it the system drive or drive that had volume1 on it?
What info was on the drive that crashed, that Emby uses or requires?
Was Emby Server on that pool/volume?
How about any of your media?

Did you try using storage manager to fix the disk?
You could have pulled the disk and put it in a Linux or Windows machine with Linux subsystem and have far more tools available to try and repair the pool or volume.

You found out the hardway why you should try and use Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) vs using jbod as you have no redundancy.

Until 2 days ago I had the following:

On Storage Pool 1 I had MyEmbyMedia1 and within them I have 3 subfolders - Movies, Photos, Series.
On Storage Pool 2 I had MyEmbyMedia2 and within them I have 3 subfolders - Movies, Photos, Series.

I was able to use Emby on my TV and access all 6 subfolders.

After the issue I now only have MyEmbyMedia2 with those 3 subfolders. I have created Storage Pool 1 and Volume 1 but I am unable to create MyEmbyMedia1.

I can access the 3 subfolders on MyEmbyMedia2 but only on Synology. I cannot access Emby on any device, not even my laptop - it just tells me to sign in. On my TV when I select Emby I am given 3 different servers with my name but I cannot access any of them (I also want to know how to remove them so I only have 1).

Essentially I can't do anything to access Emby.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problem.
Did you have a backup of the crashed drive? No. I wiped the crashed drive instead. I set up Storage Pool 1 and Volume 1 but I am unable to create folders in it now (previously I had MyEmbyMedia1 and 3 subfolders for Movies, Photos, Series on that drive. Now only my 2nd drive has those.

Which storage pool crashed? Was it the system drive or drive that had volume1 on it? Storage Pool 1 - I have no idea but am happy to find out if you can advise how I would know. I am tech illiterate on this (my entire posting history has been me on here since every year something goes wrong with Emby, although never to this extent).
What info was on the drive that crashed, that Emby uses or requires? No idea. All I can say is I set up Emby based on the instructions listed on this website. If there is a way for me to obtain the info I can provide it.
Was Emby Server on that pool/volume? No idea how to find out. Presumably so since nothing works.
How about any of your media? My media was split between both drives. Drive 1 had MyEmbyMedia 1. Drive 2 had MyEmbyMedia2. Both drives had subfolders for Movies, Photos, Series.

Did you try using storage manager to fix the disk?

please use this tutorial

I tried using it but got nowhere. When I go to Synology Package Center and search for 'Docker' that option doesn't come up.

Also when I go to Emby sign-in I can't do anything there.

docker is same as container manager

It sounds like you need to recreate the MyEmbyMedia1 share from inside File Station as well as recreate Movies, Photos, Series under it.
Then in Control Panel give permissions to the Internal emby user or this and any other share that Emby will access.

Can you remind me how to create MyEmbyMedia1 on File Station? I've spent over 2 hours and haven't had any luck despite reading through a bunch of websites and watching videos (I've done it before though so I know it's possible).

That option doesn't exist either for me (container manager).

Hi,

If anyone can advise on this I would be grateful.

What version of DSM are you on? is it up to date?

@hollerme

It seems like this thread shifted a bit to Docker/Container Manager which I didn't think had anything to do with your issue/questions.
I've sort of waited to see any indication from you if this is something you were using or not.

Let me just ask, did you install Emby Server directly on the NAS using Synology Package Manager or do you have Emby running via Docker/Container Manager?

I am using DSM 7.2.2-72806 version 2

There is no option to update so I presume it's the latest one

Hi Carlo,

Yes I installed Emby server directly on the NAS using Package Manager.

I'm still unable to access Emby on any device so any assistance would really help - I've had to go back to plugging my laptop via HDMI for the past month.
