Embodiment 28 Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 I have a HDHomeRun Quatro tuner I have been using natively with the HDHomeRun software. Took the next step with purchasing a Emby Premier subscription. It found the tuner with no effort. I confirmed IP. I found it would not pull in Guide data until I unchecked favorites. ---That confuses me since I have my HDHomerun is tuner configured for favorites. IE. not list some channels I have no interest in. Second problem is some channels in my area are missing. These channels DO come in under the HDHomeRun guide data. (I have chosen the Emby Guide data for my zip code and the line up is "Local Over the Air Broadcast.) Is there a process to fix the guide data if it fails to list channels? I know on occasion I have to post a guide data issue on the HDHomeRun forum and they do some magic.
Luke 42077 Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 Hi there, can you please provide a specific example of what you mean? Thanks !
Embodiment 28 Posted January 1, 2025 Author Posted January 1, 2025 Sure. Outlaw 10.6 ; Oxygen 10.5; and 25.9 MeToons do not show up with programing.
Luke 42077 Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 Have you checked the channel mappings in Emby Live TV setup?
Embodiment 28 Posted January 1, 2025 Author Posted January 1, 2025 Yes, 10.6 is not listed. But I see the document about trying different zip codes. I'll look at that next. Thank you.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 1, 2025 Author Posted January 1, 2025 Looks like I am out of luck. I have chosen my zip code And then tried the zip code of the actual TV station. It isn't pulling the data to map it to 10.6. The list goes to 10.4 and then moves onto another station. That unfortunately is one of my key stations. I love Westerns. This will be a show-stopper for me when it comes to renew. I'll have to live with it for now?
Embodiment 28 Posted January 1, 2025 Author Posted January 1, 2025 I tried adding other Guide Data sources. One picked up Oxygen, but MeToons and Outlaws not available. Now I will say, I posted this on HDHomeRun's forum page last year at this time, and they fixed the Guide within an hour or two. As I mentioned, the HDHomeRun's Guide data is correct and picks up both channels. I am hopefull Emby had the ability to do the same??
Embodiment 28 Posted January 1, 2025 Author Posted January 1, 2025 BTW, I am very thankful for your great support as I have tried to learn this new application. Everyone has been very patient and helpful.
Luke 42077 Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 @Carlocan report the missing channels to our guide data provider. Thanks.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 2, 2025 Author Posted January 2, 2025 Thank you, let me know if you need the area code or anything to help pinpoint the guide data missing information.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 4, 2025 Author Posted January 4, 2025 Do we have a general idea when the guide data provider 'fixes' these missing channels? Is it days or weeks?
Carlo 4560 Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 Hi, Outlaw 10.6 Oxygen 10.5 MeToons 25.9 Are these the channels that are presently missing or incorrect? What zip code is this for? Times range as it depends on the turnaround time for our provider to get the updated info from the station. We don't patch or modify feeds in our backend as we prefer to report any incidents like this to our provider, so it gets fixed properly and flows through the system properly. HDHomeRun uses the same provider as us. Had they reported it instead of patching the guide in their system you would have the proper guide right now as it would have been fixed system wide. Our provider normally does the same, and not patch their system mapping, but instead get the station or management to update their broadcast stations and guide data scheduling. These types of issues are almost always at the station/management level, not updating guide providers when they make any changes to their broadcast channels. In the case of these 3 channels, they network channels used nationally so our provider doesn't need the actual epg data as it already has it. It just needs "authorized epg update information for each channel". Essentially, the station needs to authorize the provider to set 10.5 to Oxygen, 10.6 to Outlaw and use national (east or west) feed. Same for MeToons which is likely a different station with different management, but same process. Carlo
Embodiment 28 Posted January 5, 2025 Author Posted January 5, 2025 The zip code is 29229. Columbia, SC. @Carlo Thank you for your help!
Embodiment 28 Posted January 8, 2025 Author Posted January 8, 2025 @CarloDo we have an ETA of what the Guide will be corrected? I certainly respect your thoughts on patching vs. doing it right. It has been a week today. If it was a sports channel I would be really hurting. I sort of see why the folks at HDHomeRun take the shortcut. The results are the channels are showing up in a matter of minutes to a few hours.
Carlo 4560 Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 I don't know how long it will take, but I just got the zip code for the feed yesterday, verified the missing info and put together the information for submission which was done earlier today.
Carlo 4560 Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 @Embodiment FYI, This has been a strange ticket that is abnormal, so I wanted to update you on its status. Ticket was opened Jan 7th. Most of the info is done via a form with text boxes and pre-populated data fields such as a listbox or dropdown. I also typed the following in the issue summary/misc field as well. It's brief and to the point. The OTA lineup for zip code 29229 Columbia, SC. is missing the following three channels: Oxygen 10.5 Outlaw 10.6 MeToons 25.9 --- I got an update on the 8th from a agent that let me know they were assigned the case. --- On the 10th the ticket was closed with this response: Quote Hello, This channels is currently out of scope for our database. Thank you, {agent name redacted] On the 10th I reopened the ticket with this response: Quote What exactly does this mean “This channels is currently out of scope for our database.” I submitted 3 different channels for 29229 Columbia, SC. OTA broadcasts that are discovered and watchable on TV but have no EPG guide information available. “This” implies ONE in this context, but I submitted THREE channels missing EPG information. Carlo Ayars Emby LLC Account Number: [redacted] API Key: [redacted] Jan 14th the ticket was updated with this message Quote Hello, We are still working on this, I will update you soon, Thank you, [redacted] There was no acknowledgement of the “This channels is currently out of scope for our database.” that originally closed the ticket. Maybe the agent had a couple tickets open and closed the wrong ticket, don't know, but that's the first time I've seen anything goofy like that. Unfortunately, from the standpoint of getting work done my response to them on the 10th was in the evening so for practical purposes the ticket was started on the 11th back through the workflow to get fixed. While it seems like this particular ticket is dragging along, at least we know it's being worked on! Most likely they are waiting for the stations or broadcaster to put in the proper channel change requests or similar.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 16, 2025 Author Posted January 16, 2025 I actually was wondering how this was going, two weeks today I think. I am impressed with your follow-up with the vendor. I am an IT manager, so I can appreciate when I am called upon because further down the chain end users reach out to me because of no action on their tickets. Thank you for the update. BTW, Outlaws 10.6 is alive and well. I think 1
Embodiment 28 Posted January 16, 2025 Author Posted January 16, 2025 I meant to include that Outlaws is showing up on the HDHomeRun guide so they should be able to get it fixed. @Carlo
Carlo 4560 Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Appreciate that Embodiment. Not sure exactly why, but It's not unusual to see guide changes in the HDHomeRun EPG before the normal feeds. Maybe as a hardware manufacture, they have unique or different access to data? I do know their customers get data directly from them vs the EPG provider which allows them to make adjustments to guide data on their own as well. Speaking of providers and manufactures. They should work together to improve the guide experience for their customers. Hell, if I were a guide provider, I'd cut a deal with tuner manufactures that's mutually beneficial. A guide provider could get back anonymous channel lineup & signal strength info from a weekly channel scan of Cable, SAT & OTA tuner devices. With the number of HDHRs in the US, CA & UK, I'd bet every OTA market (maybe cable) is well covered by hundreds, if not more, devices providing a wealth of data from just one the one manufacture. That kind of data could greatly reduce if not almost eliminate the need for customers to report EPG discrepancies as it could be automatically determined very quickly. Carlo PS I love you handle "Embodiment", especially in the day and age of AI.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 23, 2025 Author Posted January 23, 2025 As an update. No EPG data yet for those channels. Three weeks plus two days. This isn't your fault as I know you have made efforts. I am having to rely on SiliconDust's EPG (TVXML) to be able to record anything on those channels. I could not migrate to just EMBY under these conditions. :-(
Carlo 4560 Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 I asked for an update yesterday but have not heard back yet.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 29, 2025 Author Posted January 29, 2025 Just tried Emby guide again. No change, channels still not available.
Luke 42077 Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 1 hour ago, Embodiment said: Just tried Emby guide again. No change, channels still not available. OK please give it a try again tomorrow. Thanks.
Embodiment 28 Posted January 30, 2025 Author Posted January 30, 2025 I did just now. No Change. I even deleted it twice, and re-added it.
Carlo 4560 Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 I'm so sorry this is taking so long to get implemented. I escalated the trouble ticket due to lack of update/response on my previously question regarding the delay. The TT was updated with this: Hello Carlos, I would like to inform you that we are creating this channels. I will update you once all done. Thank you While probably fine, due to the "this channels" in the response, I wanted to make sure all three channels are being added as well as a response to the previous question, so I added this to the ticket. Normally requests like this are processed quickly in just a couple days. Can I ask what the issue has been with these 3 channels? Oxygen 10.5 Outlaw 10.6 MeToons 25.9 zip code 29229 Columbia, SC. OTA lineup I'll keep you informed, Carlo
