MrAudio 22 Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 When a piece of media (movie, TV episode) is added, and a new Person (actor, director, etc.) who is not yet in the Emby database is added, Emby is only retrieving the photo (if any) and the TMDB number for that person - nothing else. In the past, it would retrieve the entire person's entire profile information from TMDB automatically, including birthdate, birthplace, bio, IMDB number, etc. assuming that information had been filled out in TMDB. Currently, to get the missing information filled in, you must manually review each person and manually perform a Refresh on each person individually, which then pulls the ENTIRE profile's data from TMDB. This has made adding new media a very tedious process for someone who really likes to have People entries as complete as possible. Could we go back to automatically doing a full profile retrieval on those new People when adding new media?

Hi, at the time of scanning in the media, this is normal. This is because this information is attached to the movie or series, and therefore comes very quickly. To download people information one by one at that point would cause your library scans to take an extremely long time. And in fact, when we used to do this years ago, we were asked by moviedb and tvdb to stop doing this due to the amount of pressure it puts on their servers. Then when you click on a person, an on-demand fetch may be initiated (if needed). Does that make sense?
MrAudio 22 Posted January 2, 2025 Author Posted January 2, 2025 It's not the answer that I wanted, but I suppose I can understand their point of view, and why you've implemented it as it is. I guess I'll continue to work around it.
Luke 42077 Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 Quote manually perform a Refresh on each person individually But this shouldn't be necessary. Just clicking on them should be sufficient.

Emby isn't downloading the profile information when people are clicked on. You do actually have to perform a manual refresh to get it.

Whether or not it does an on-demand refresh depends on a number of factors, such as, how long it's been since it last tried, as well as what information is already there. For example it will only try to do this when there is at least one external id present, otherwise you're looking up by name and that can sometimes lead to incorrect results. Beyond that it's best to go over a specific example: How to Report a Problem Thanks.
