Multi-Part media handling issue (not using Part 1 as the primary part)

Emby is currently not assuming that Part 1 is the primary piece of the media - it seems to randomly pick a part to be primary - Part 3 in this hypothetical example - and that's the NFO file it will fill out, which is non-sensical. It will then make "-poster.jpg" files for the other parts, which means they're going to be played out of order too. You can tell that Part 3 is the primary because there's no "-poster.jpg" for it. Again, it could be any part that Emby chooses as primary, and there's no reliable way that I've figured out to force it to Part 1.

\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 1.nfo
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 1.mp4
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 1-poster.jpg
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 2.nfo
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 2.mp4
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 2-poster.jpg
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 3.nfo <<<<<< This becomes the primary NFO and all edits in Emby go here.
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 3.mp4 <<<<<< Randomly chose this part as the "primary" piece of this multi-part movie
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 4.nfo
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 4.mp4
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\Movie (2025) - Part 4-poster.jpg
\\Server\Movies\Movie (2025)\poster.jpg

On a different multi-part movie, it might choose Part 2, or Part 4, and sometimes it picks Part 1, but it seems completely random, and once it picks a primary piece, it will keep picking that file as primary. I've tried lots of manual work-arounds, and can't find a way that reliably works. Anyway, the lowest-numbered part should be the primary always, in my opinion, but even if a Part 1 (or Disc 1, or whatever) is required, that would be better than just some random piece being made primary.

I am having this issue as well.  The odd thing is that for the LotR series, the first two movies are identified and tagged properly, but RotK will not allow me to make Part 1 the first part of the movie.  Happy to share logs if that helps the devs.

Who the heck still has multi part movies in 2025 or is this for additional material from a movies extras disk? If not, wouldn't it be easier to run mkvtoolnix or something similar over it to create one file?

Thanks @LukeJust curious.  What is the ETA on 4.9?

Hi, no ETA but we're working hard on it. Thanks.
