How do you copy the API key from latest emby beta?

Not sure if this is a bug or I'm just being dumb but on the latest emby beta, I generate an API key, but I can't select it to copy it, and the 3 dots menu doesn't have a copy option anymore.

You have to be on localhost or https.

As a workaround you can change to Table view and double click on it to highlight it.

Taking away the convenient copy buttons seems kind of pointless if the keys are still going to be displayed in plain text anyway...

True. I screenshot red it and asked chatgpt to OCR it. 😂

Thanks for the answer.  Interestingly I am https, but via reverse proxy. *Edit* just went back through reverse proxy and it's there again. Seems like when you first run emby, go through setup wizard, then go to create API key even when on https it's not there until you close/relaunch for some reason.

Emby did not take it away the browser context itself did.

So if you truly want it you can change your browser flag for your connection same as the CORS issue with the API.

Using Table view you can mark and copy.

Pretty bad experience here! I could see the key yet could not copy to clipboard which led to a very frustrating few minutes until I came here to learn of this workaround with the table view. Why not allow to select the key and right click copy in the list view?

Not sure exactly where you would put it but there potentially needs to be a note somewhere so user know to change connections or views to copy api key.  @Luke

I'm sorry but this is a horrible user experience. This took me a good 30mins to figure out. Please fix.

How do you fix a browser limitation?  As the browser itself is blocking the context per security requirement.

You have 4 choices here for connections

localhost

HTTPS

change browser flags to bypass the CORS issue

change to table view to allow you to highlight the text

The fact that it is a browser limitation is unknown to the user. And the various solutions are also unknown to the user.

I think the quick and easy solution to whole problem would be to make the Table View be the default view.

Windows 11 has built in screen to text copy, you press Windows Key + Shift + T, it will OCR whatever you highlight and copy to clipboard.
