Xbox: Emby app doesn't detect input being launched after XBox startup

Hi all,

Have noticed what seems to be a minor bug in the new Xbox release. When I start up the Emby app for the first time after booting up the Xbox, it doesn't detect either my controller or my remote - no items are highlighted on screen and moving around/selecting does not work.

However if I then quit the app, and restart it, my controller or remote then work fine.

Don't you see that dialog which says "Emby has setup the environment and is ready to start..."?

It should only show on the first installation (and is kind of supposed to work around that focus issue).

Hmm no can't remember seeing that message.

Which Xbox are you using? I noticed that my Xbox Series X detects input all the time, but my Xbox One X never does.

Yep it's an Xbox One X. Was ok until most recent release.

@oceanclub - So this happens always on the first launch after rebooting the console?

Does it work when you press one of these two buttons and press B for back right afterwards?

I have noticed this behavior as well.

I did see the initial setup message after installing the latest update; but couldn't move the cursor. Closed the app and re-opened via the home menu and it worked.

Now whenever I launch the app after first starting the xbox; I'm prompted for my pin, but again no cursor. (I'm usually using an IR remote for this, but get the same results from controller). From here, if I start up a controller, all of the inputs are ignored except for the xbox home button.

Once I've opened the xbox home/side menu and closed it again, the cursor returns and I can use the app as normal.

If I completely close the app (xbox home > 3 line button on the controller > 'close') and re open it, the app functions as normal. Cursor is fine.

Shutting off the xbox long enough that it totally shuts down (no hibernation), or using the 'restart' power option; restarts this no-cursor process. Just shutting it off and immediately restarting it does not.

EmbyPlus Xbox v2.207.70.1 on an Xbox One S

/edit

Pressing the 3 line button, then pressing B returned me to the home menu with the app running in the background. Open the app again and it immediately returns to where I was and has a working cursor.

This requires a controller though. Not IR remote friendly.

It wasn't meant as a solution, just to understand whether it is what we had already seen.

On the Xbox Series S|X models it happens only when starting the first time after installation, but seemingly not on the Xbox One models. Probably I need to get one and dig into this again...

Any updates on this?  On my Xbox One units it still happens randomly.

This is still a problem for me (using latest build 2.219).  Are you still aware of it and working on a fix?

It's a killer for adoption from rest of family.  They start up the app and it "just doesn't work" - they can't select anything so they go back to using Emby on the tv.  They wont think (or want to) exit and go back in to try again, which does then work.

thanks - (the rest of the xbox app is a hug improvement and really appreciate all the hard work!)

Was wondering if any news about this? It's a minor thing but annoying: sometimes I have to quit and start the app three times... 😕

sounds like exactly the same issue as reported in the link below.  Really hoping this can get fixed soon.

Hi,

I'm reviving this post.

All the Xbox One S consoles in my home are still facing this issue.  Most of the time I open the Emby app and I have to press the centre X button to go out of the screen and then back in to be able to select anything.  Sometimes it works perfectly.

Any word on a timeline for a fix for this?

Just checking in on this. It is the last thing that keeps my Xbox One S systems from working really well.

Any updates?
