Number of devices...again

Hello everyone,

It's that annoying "number of devices" thing again.

I have a lifetime licence and as I read it I can use 25 devices with it.
Only the period is not clearly defined and can even change, if I interpret this sentence from the terms of service correctly.

Quote

The Premiere Device shall be granted access to Premiere applications and services for the Subscription Term. The system will automatically manage the devices as being granted Premiere Device access throughout the Subscription term on a rolling date-of-access basis. The term for this rolling period is to be determined by the system and may change from time to time without notice. Any devices in excess of the permitted number or upon expiration of the given Subscription Term may no longer have access to any Premiere functionality, apps, or services.

Yesterday I got 3 messages saying that I had exceeded the number of devices. Shortly afterwards it worked again.

I checked how many devices I was using.
In the last 5 days I have used 16 devices.
In the last month 19 devices and in the last 2 months a total of 21 devices.

25 devices between four and five months.

I ask myself, how can such a message come about?
Furthermore, it is very difficult to estimate if the time in which the devices are used is variable.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning your licensing model. 25 devices should be enough. But the way it is designed could be better.

Happy new year to all!! 🙂

Good new here

But yes I also like to know what devices, has taken a server slot.
And at what date/time, and end date/time

Hello, thank you for your answer.
But I don't understand that now.

I have Emby on my Amazon Fire TV Stick, in the intranet where the EmbyServer is located.
Does this device count?

I have also set up an account on my Emby server for my father, who lives in another town.
He also accesses my server with his Amazon stick.
Does my father's stick count as a device that requires a license?

Thanks for the explanation.

Users who pay for a premium subscription or a lifetime license should have access to detailed information about the slots they occupy and the ones they have available. Additionally, they should be able to check the dates when those slots were occupied and when they expire. As paying users of a service, it's essential that they can see and manage this data.

It would be good to SEE it, but the point of such restrictions is that you cannot "manage" them, because you'd just "manage around" the restrictions. By seeing them, you COULD manage the USERS and which devices they were using, and that would be good if you are running into the limits, but otherwise, there's really nothing to manage.

This 'Devices' issue has me needing some clarification, please.

It seems every time I log into my computer (same computer all day long through Chrome) it counts it as a device. So I had about 5 devices all from the same desktop computer.

Then I see Embycon on my SmartTV has two instances. But it is only one TV.

This was after I deleted several this morning when I first saw so many.

I would think the logic would be one license per device or specific user account. But it seems it counts as a license every time you start the application on some devices like my PC and TV.

If you are referring to Premiere device limits, then please note that the items you see on your 'Devices' tab have no correlation to how Premiere devices are tracked. Deleting devices from that page has no bearing on this calculation.

As posted earlier, more info here: Is there a limit to Emby Premiere?

Now that I have carefully read through the license model again, it has almost become clearer to me.
So only the devices that use the features of the Premiere license are counted.
These can be found here:

In fact, it says so everywhere, I just didn't get it *gg*

But now I have installed the CoverArt plugin, I enable the download of movies and TV shows and I have also activated the Generate intro video markers function.

Then ALL devices automatically require a license and are counted. And then the device display of the dashboard matches the devices that actually require a license.

Do I see that correctly?

In addition, I still don't understand why the message appeared three times on one device that the device limit had been reached, even though I was still relatively far away from the limit.

Not exactly as server-only features like CoverArt do not impact your device limit.

Why do you believe you were far from the limit when you got those messages?

Hi,

well, I thought if everyone uses coverart, downloads etc, every device that uses my server counts.
And so the display of devices in the dashboard is correct.
And there are “only” 19 devices listed in one week.

Anyway.
I'm a big fan of Emby. But the license model is opaque to me.
That makes troubleshooting difficult.
