user84 46 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 When I direct play media, I have noticed that when the renderer is listed as "ffmpeg" my video stutters when attempting to play at any level of 1080p. If I drop to 720, the issues resolve. Most of my media lists "mediacodec" as the renderer, and I have no issues when that is the case. How do I remedy this?
Luke 42079 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

ebr 16184 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi. What is the device? My guess would be it just isn't powerful enough for the video in question.

It's an Amazon fire stick. The server is running Windows 11 with a 9th gen i5 Intel chip. Just for my own education, what impacts the renderer that is used? That is likely the issue - just not enough CPU power. 14 hours ago, emrdaniels said: what impacts the renderer that is used? Device hardware support (or lack thereof).

visproduction 315 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Factors that can reduce video encoding throughput and possibly cause buffering when direct play is available: Original media bitrate Original media stream corruption (playback on another 3rd party player is not a valid test to find media metadata errors) Number of subtitles (many media have 25 + subtitles) Other demand on the server Network connections Router hardware Router software setup Cable type Ethernet switch if used Wifi setup and conflicts, if used TV App connectivity and security (often 3rd party incoming stream might get limited by TV software preferences for security) I probably missed something. So which one of these might it be? If we don't see a log, it's impossible to tell.
