Emby freezes on Synology NAS and unable to do anything about it.

Emby installed fine. After I decided that its interface was too complex to use and it failed to locate my very obvious media location on my nas, I tried to uninstall it. I can't. When I go into package center and click the icon and get the drop-down menu, nothing on that menu works. When I click any choice, it just stays set to "Install" and nothing works at all. I have restarted the nas twice, looked for an Emby folder to delete, looked for permissions to modify. Nothing.

What's worse is that the Emby app has decided to use port number 8096, which prevents it from being used by any other app. I went into the Emby settings and specified a different port number, it accepted the change, I tried to install another media app, but it failed, saying that port 8096 is in use. I restarted the NAS hoping that Emby would release 8096, but no.

So, 8096 is frozen in-use and I cannot find any way to remove the Emby app.

Emby app version 4.7.14.0

DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 7

Model DS415+

I would like to just be able to uninstall Emby and remove any traces of it from the NAS.

Thanks much.

Hi there, are you able to update to Emby Server 4.8?

I didn't think I'd be able to stop it to upgrade, but I found through the Emby interface that I am able to. Let me give that a try. Thanks for the idea.

It upgraded ok to 4.8.10, I think, but same behavior as before. I just shut it down. I wouldn't mind just leaving it there, dead, except it's still locking out port 8096 which I'd like to have available.

What exactly is too complex?  Its really no different than Plex or Jellyfin, what were you expecting UI wise?  Why did you install it?  Had you used other media servers before?  Why do you require the specific use of port 8096?

@dshinnick can you please attach a new Emby server log with this happening on 4.8? Thanks!

You need to give access rights on Synology as on Linux. For Emby to see your library folders, you need to give rights to the user 'emby' in 'internal system user'.
