Channel\Playlist with Shows Sorted by Earliest Unwatched Episodes?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Basically, I want to make a dynamic Channel or Smart Playlist that contains alternating multiple shows sorted chronologically by episode starting with the Earliest Unwatched Episodes.

Example:

  • I'm starting Sopranos from the beginning, so the earliest episode in the list will be #1.
  • I'm continuing The Wire, so the earliest episode is #5
  • I'm continuing Breaking Bad, so the earliest episode is #10

So, the list would be ordered like this:

  1. Sopranos - Ep1
  2. The Wire - Ep5
  3. Breaking Bad - Ep10
  4. Sopranos - Ep2
  5. The Wire - Ep6
  6. Breaking Bad - Ep11
  7. Sopranos - Ep3
  8. The Wire - Ep7
  9. Breaking Bad - Ep12

If I decide to binge 3 episodes of Breaking Bad, then the list's order would automatically update to Episodes 13, 14, and 15.

I would also like to add filters for File Path, Release Year, etc., but that's secondary to the above.  I've been playing with the VirtualTV and Smart Playlist plugins with some success, but I'm having trouble getting the results to update consistently.

Can I do what I want with either of these plugins?  I know integrated Smart Playlists are coming with version 4.9, will the update be able to do what I want?  Thanks for any help!

HI, I'd probably suggest posting in the dedicated topics for the two plugins, just in case the developers of them don't see this.

@VicMoore

Thanks !

@Lukeand @mrmechI think you can do most of what you want with the PseudoTV plugin.  This plugin is not in the Emby Library yet, but it is in the Plugin Forums. I attached a copy of the plugin below. Both source code and tutorial videos are available. Please let me know if you have questions. The two videos below are not polished but they should show you how to build what you want, as long as it can be achieved via Emby queries and filters.

Those attachments that yell at me are without a doubt the worst thing I have ever seen or heard on this forum. While what is proposed sounds good I would NEVER use anything from such a rude and unfeeling person. Videos that are quite are one thing but this is just trash.

And NO I did not click on anything to get that trash started. BTW: @VicMoorewelcome to my ignore list. You should be proud, I only have honored 3 people before you with the ignore function.

@Gilgamesh_48It may be that my videos are very poor. As I have said before, I am voice challenged, and what you hear is the best I can do. It took me considerable time to create these videos and I do it because I am trying to help others. That's why I give away the source code. I would appreciate it if you could chip in and make a better set of videos that everyone could enjoy.  I will give you credit.

I would like your help and extend my hand of friendship.

I do not care about quality of video or audio here. Posts should never talk.

I do not and will not want to help you pollute this forum with noise.
If you have something that you think would help people then type it out. But using audio to tell people things is counter productive as people can read several times faster that they can intemperate speech.

I do wonder why the ignore function is not working.

You are the one who pollutes this forum continuously by adding zero value posts. I ignored your comment on my post earlier today because i decided it wasn't worth my time but I am commenting now because you are harassing someone with a disability trying to communicate and contribute, that's where I draw the line. Anyone else would have ignored the videos posted if audio bothered them so much but not you. Again with your two cents that nobody asked for.

I think the videos are well made and I'm glad they're available, I will definitely give the plugin a shot.  Thanks for contributing and thanks for keeping it positive.  👍🤩👍

Thanks @mrmechI appreciate the kind words. Keep in mind that PseudoTV is an open-source project. It accepts ideas from everyone. Let me know if you have any questions.

I don't know what setting or slip of the mouse cause the videos in that post to play for you - for me they didn't play until I commanded them, and then I found their volume on the quiet side.

I completely understand  your dislike of unnecessary noise while browsing - I feel the same myself, and will usually prefer the written to the spoken (though some skilled podcasters can hold my attention).  But I think that you should try counting to ten before releasing your irascible side at the forum - and age is no excuse, even if you are only a couple of years younger than me.

@VicMoore
I finally got a chance to play around with this and its working great so far.

How do I use the Path Formula Filter?  Adding strings like X:\East\Series didn't work even though it's the main path of the library I'm querying.

Also, in the Library Explorer, is there a way to select all in the Item Count window?

I figured out the select all, I had to hold Shift+Ctrl then click.  One of the videos says to only hold down the Shift key.
