AndyBak 17 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Hi, just tested this new version and it still isn't able to play HEVC natively, is this to be expected? Thanks.

AndyBak 17 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Oh right ok..that was also done. Shall now be quiet! Thanks again! 1
cpdohert 0 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I have an Asus FlashStor running the Emby Server (4.8.10.0) and an Xbox Series X running the Emby Xbox App. AV1 playback has not been working for me since the "new" Xbox app release. I get a black screen, subtitles and audio. I notice the changelog for this version claims "[Xbox] AV1 playback fixed" but I see no difference. No issues playing AV1 content in either the web player or the Windows app on two other systems. Also, I no longer get subtitles overlaid on top of video without a 100% opaque black field, regardless of how I set the subtitles settings (again, on the new Xbox app). Since most of my media is in HEVC, this might be related to the lack of HEVC native support. Curiously, the app reports its version as 2.207.70.0. I primarily use my Xbox as my Emby client as it's connected to the big screen TV. I have to be honest, releasing this without native HEVC support and broken AV1 support and buggy subtitle support is a major regression.
PIkeoftheLake 14 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 The stutter is totally fixed! Everything looks great. Your attention to this is much appreciated. 1
carpenter2003 3 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) I've seen this problem posted last summer with a supposed fix but I just updated to the latest update and still have the problem. I'm running Windows 10, if you minimize the Emby Window it just quietly closes. If I just switch to another application it seems to be fine. Update. A decided to test one other thing. I use dual monitors. It seems to work on the primary monitor when minimized, but quietly closes when minimized on the second monitor. Edited December 24, 2024 by carpenter2003

AV1 should be fixed in 2.207 (so that it transcodes), Xbox doesn't have hw support for AV1 decoding. For everything else: Play the Lottery!

Are you sure it really closes when minimizing? I've never seen that and nobody else has ever reported something similar. Multi-monitor setups were tested and also available during development. Can you check in Task Manager for Emby.Client.WinUI.exe to see whether it disappears on minimize?

Can you check in Task Manager for Emby.Client.WinUI.exe to see whether it disappears on minimize? Yes it goes away. I have Emby pinned on the taskbar so it has a bar/line under the task bar icon when its open. If I minimize it from my primary monitor it stays active in the background no problem and the Emby process can be found in Task Manager. If I move it to my secondary monitor and then minimize it to do other work. In about 2 seconds the line/bar goes away and it closes, checked in Task Manager as you requested, no Emby processes. If I hit the Emby icon it goes through the full open/load process with the new animation. At the moment I just have to retrain myself to not minimize Emby but to just swap to whatever task/program I need to work on so it stays open.
softworkz 5066 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 @carpenter2003 - Ok, thanks. Can you please post the log from the app when this happens? (In the app, under Settings >> About >> Logfiles) - not only the current (without timestamp in the file name) but also previous logs from the time when it happened. Also, are there other files in the log folder (like having "unhandled" in the name)?

Also, are there other files in the log folder (like having "unhandled" in the name)? Here are 3 logs file I just created. The 3rd (current one) I kept it open a bit longer. Maximized it on the main monitor, minimized it there while I did a couple other things, then went back to it. All with no problem. Then I moved it to the secondary monitor, maximized it and then left it in the background a bit while I did some other things. Came back to it and minimized it and went to another program. Poof, closed/gone. The only other two files in the log folder are mpv*.txt They appear to be settings files perhaps? One is dated a few days ago when I first installed the new Emby app, the other was from this morning. EmbyClient.txt EmbyClient-20241224T175043721.txt EmbyClient-20241224T175219292.txt
softworkz 5066 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Thanks for the logs. Nothing unusual to see but what's unusual is what's not to see: log entries about proper closing of the app. Looks like some kind of crash might be happening. Can you please the the Windows event log (Application and System) for any entries from the same point in time which might be related? Thanks

Thanks. First you need the "HEVC extension" from Microsoft Store. after Installation you need a Windows restart. No no no. This topic is about Xbox, not Windows. And the HEVC extensions are not needed. I hid your post to avoid confusion.
