Subtitle issue for strm files

Hello.
Please share your wisdom.

File Composition

TV SHOW Library

... /AAA.mp4
... /AAA.ja-jp.forced.srt

MOVIE Library

... /AAA.strm

AAA.strm is the content showing AAA.mp4.
Here, when I look at AAA on the MOVIE library side, subtitles are not recognized.

I had no choice but to copy AAA.ja-jp.forced.srt to the same folder as AAA.strm.
It was recognized, but when viewed on the TV SHOW side, the subtitles default to “Japanese (Forced SRT)”, but on the MOVIE side, the subtitles default to none.

Is there any way to get the subtitles recognized correctly on the AAA.strm side?

Hi, currently in this situation, the subtitles are supported when they are next to the strm file, but not the video file.

I would just mux the subtitle stream into the video file, so then they're always together.

I understand this and would like to copy and place it next to the strm file.

However, can't something be done about the default subtitle settings being different?
Since these are forced subtitles, I would like "Japanese (Forced SRT)" to be selected by default on the MOVIE side as well.

I think that is the correct solution. However, I am hesitant because there are over 2000 files with forced subtitles. As a last resort, I would like to consider multiplexing only in the case of strm files.

I tried changing the file name of the subtitle in the same location as the strm file to “xxxxxxx.ja-jp.forced.default.srt” but the subtitle was still off.
I wish there was a way to get around this, though.

Have you checked your emby user subtitle preferences?

“Subtitle mode” is ‘Default’.

The combination of mp4 and forced subtitle leaves forced subtitle selected, but the combination of strm and forced subtitle selects off.
I think one of them is the wrong behavior.

Yea, probably because the audio language isn't known ahead of time. That piece of information is incorporated into what subtitle stream gets selected.

I hope that the combination of strm files and subtitles will behave similarly to the combination with mp4 in the future.
Thanks.

In the case of strm, I noticed that the resolution (1080p HEVC etc.) was not displayed just by scanning, so I played it once and stopped it immediately. Then the resolution was also displayed and forced subtitles were selected.
I see, so just scanning is not enough.
Thanks.

After the resolution was displayed, the subtitles remained off even though the subtitle file was placed in the same location as the strm file.

Try naming the subtitle file using ja instead of ja-jp. I'm not sure the server will recognize ja-jp as japanese.

I tried changing it to jp but no change.
I also changed it to ja.forced.default.srt and the same thing happened.

It is strange because subtitles other than strm are recognized correctly.

It seems that even ja-jp is recognized as Japanese subtitles.

How have you configured your emby user subtitle options?

Posted

Simply place the subtitle file and run “Scan Library Files”.

I'm sorry. I was mistaken.

Is this correct?
If I am misplaced, please point it out.

These are the library settings related to downloading. I'm referring to the user settings relating to controlling which tracks get selected. Try clicking your user icon in the top right.

I am sorry. I am very bad at English.
Is this screenshot ok?

OK I tested this and it worked just fine, but I tested on 4.9 development. There are some improvements to this there, so that could possibly be the reason.

I tried it on Emby Version 4.9.0.37 beta in a test environment.
However, subtitles are still selected OFF by default.
We hope this will be improved in 4.9.

HI, yea as I mentioned it works fine for me. It could be related to other options that you've configured.
