Embodiment 28 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I was able to setup a Movie folder in the Library settings to a USB drive connected to my Qnap-TS233. Relatively simple hitting the [Back] arrow until I saw /Share and then selecting my USB conneced drive. Everything populated no problem. That was a test as those movies are just duplicates. So tonight I decided to go for it by connecting to a volume of shared movies on a WD NAS. Kodi already connects to this share as well as Windows and my tablets. So I know the share is correct. But I am having no success getting the Path set correctly. I have tried the NAS-IP followed by the shared folder and Emby then complains about needing a Folder entry in the Folder field. When I try to give it a folder under the Path \\NAS-IP\Shared Folder it states an error. I have tried SMB://IP/Share and that has not worked either. I guess my question is what do you enter under the Folder box when you put the Shared Network Folder information. I am sure this has been done. :-)
Embodiment 28 Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 I should mention the Qnap NAS is hosting my Emby installation so it makes sense it sees that USB drive. The other NAS is on the same network of course and it can be seen from all my other devices as MovieV2 is shared.
Clackdor 109 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 (edited) This is likely a permissions issue. Basically the user context that emby runs as will need to at minimum have read permissions to the shared folders on the other nas. I'm not sure how you would go about changing this on a qnap or whether or not it's possible. If so it may require doing so from the command line rather than the web ui. More or less you would have to force emby to run as a custom user with credentials that match on the other NAS. To do this you would also have to edit permissions of system folders that emby runs from so the custom account can read/write to them. A possible alternative solution would be to enable guest access on the other NAS so that anyone has read access to that share over the network. This may or may not work, and also may not be desirable from a user access perspective on your network. With the correct permissions you should be able to add the UNC path in the folder field \\nas-ip\sharedfolder . You should be able to leave the optional shared folder field blank. Edit: One other possibility is to see if there is a setting or plugin on the qnap that will allow you to mount the SMB share to a local path, then specify that local path in the library location of emby. Embodiment 28 Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 Thank you for your input. I found out on the Qnap NAS you need to install the app for it, "HybridMount." Once I installed that, figuring out how to point it to my WD NAS was not difficult and it works! The jury is still out, however, if the Automatic monitoring works. So far I had to do a manual refresh for it to see movies I add into the NAS. It may not work since it is not 'directly' attached to the Emby Server running on my QNAP. It would have to talk through the LAN connection and not sure if it will do that. I've thrown a few more movies into the share and will see if Emby evidentially figures they are there. 1 1
