blountex 0 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Greetings to you! DS 720+ My current version DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5 (not the latest because I lost the DS video) I downloaded and installed emby from the package management center. Then control panel - shared folder - and there I enabled emby as an internal system user for one of the folders. Here I have given everyone all the existing permissions. Finally, I started the emby inside the NAS. Comparing Windows emby installed and Synology emby installed, the difference between the two is that: While Windows Installer accepts the wizard interface, the Synology installer requires you to enter Disktation and the wizard interface does not come in. Any user (including admin) and password I enter, the interface says it doesn't exist. I tried the password reset both with and without a username. When entering a PIN, it says that it cannot restore it because it does not exist. I even tried the emby connect user and password, but obviously the two are completely different. The Plex media server and the Jellyfin media server work perfectly under Synology, you can log in even after startup, while the Emby Synology server is unusable.
Carlo 4560 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) Hi @blountex Thanks for posting here in the forum vs just to me in a PM. Short of needing to provide private info requested it's best to post issues or ask questions in the forums as it allows other staff or forum members to help as well. We have a lot of great contributors with a wealth of knowledge who are great contributors, especially for the Synology platform as it has some, err/um "uniqueness" compared to other platforms Emby Server runs on. You downloaded the Server software from Emby.Media correct? What exactly did you give internal emby user access to? Did you give the emby group permission as well? I assume you are referring to the startup wizard that takes place right after installation on your first access to the running server? This only happens once. If you previously installed Emby Sever on the NAS then deleted and re-installed it, the wizard won't run as it would still have your original config files. Uninstalling the sever won't remove the config in case you reinstall later. If you need to start completely over, installing from scratch, let us know and we can give you instructions how to do this. On Synology you will have to use SSH as root (sudo) from the command line. There is no "admin" account named that by default unless you named it that. The first user you add to the system (normally via the wizard) is the admin account by default. Once logged in, this can be changed by adding new users and giving admin access to any of them you want. That also allows you to remove the original user if you need to since you then have other admin accounts setup. The password reset only works for an admin account. It does nothing for a non-admin account. You won't be able to tell this from trying it as that would not be a good idea. You don't want to give clues that an account is valid or not as that would make guessing/hacking an admin account easier. Is it fair to say, you don't really have much time invested in setup and it would be easier or better to start from scratch with a clean install? Are you comfortable using SSH or have you used it previously? (sounds like you might have to fetch a PIN?) Carlo Edited December 24, 2024 by Carlo
blountex 0 Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 "You downloaded the Server software from Emby.Media correct?" Why should I download it from emby's site when it's available through Synology? Anyway, I tried that too, but both are the same. In my case, 64 bit nas was the right one "What exactly did you give internal emby user access to? Did you give the emby group permission as well? " For everything I could. Just example: "I assume you are referring to the startup wizard that takes place right after installation on your first access to the running server?" Yes. This was the first time I installed from the Package Center, the wizard didn't come up yet. Unlike the windows (11) installer, where it came up. "Is it fair to say, you don't really have much time invested in setup and it would be easier or better to start from scratch with a clean install? Are you comfortable using SSH or have you used it previously? (sounds like you might have to fetch a PIN?)" I checked the password txt via SSH and even deleted the emby folder and reinstalled it. Nothing has changed.
Luke 42077 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 @blountexcan you try deleting the server's data folder and then restart Emby server: Emby Server Data Folder Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
