nospotify 184 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Given the vast list of wonderful improvements that have accumulated in the 4.9 beta and the modest tweaks reported in the release notes for the latest 4.9.0.33 beta, here is a fervent plea that the Emby devs push this latest v4.9 as a stable release now, for benefit of the vast majority of Emby users who don't install beta versions. 4 1
AJV_20 57 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Why would they release it as a “stable” version when is not “stable”? The beta still has issues that need to be worked out 1
nospotify 184 Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 Sure, get to stable with reported bugs, but just encouraging Emby devs not to add any more changes/features. Let this come in later dot releases.
AJV_20 57 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Doesn’t really make sense, if you want the new stuff then get the beta. Stable releases should be stable, if I don’t want to join the beta, I would be upset if a stable release adds a bunch of known bugs to my stable release.
nospotify 184 Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 We are in agreement. I am advocating for bug fixes only now for 4.9. Release of 4.8 took a year, partly because of the major database changes but also partly because the developers kept adding 'just one more thing, as long as we're working toward a big new release'. Perhaps I, a non-developer, should have said "bug fixes only now for 4.9" - so I am saying it that way now. V4.9 feature list looks great - please roll it out to all users as soon as stable.
newyorker 11 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 They mentioned a smart playlist feature in version 4.9, but it’s still missing in the beta release. I guess they haven’t figured that out yet. 1

But currently 4.9 is really no different than 4.8 so releasing now wouldn't really help anything. But pretty sure upgrading to .NET 8 will break a lot of older systems. But to be expected moving forward.

This is a long list of improvements it would be great to have as part of stable Emby server: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/tag/4.9.0.34

gmichaelr 4 Posted August 7, 2025 Posted August 7, 2025 I can't wait as then it will be able to finally combine both 1080 and 4K versions into one library so it won't show as different movies when searching. 1

Hm weird. I can already do this with the following structure: X:\Media\Movies\The Lord Of The Rings The Return Of The King (2003) - 4K.mkv X:\Media\Movies\The Lord Of The Rings The Return Of The King (2003) - 1080p.mkv Which shows up as For episodes this works wonderfully too: X:\Media\Shows\Dune Prophecy (2024)\Season 01\HD\Dune Prophecy - s01e01 - The Hidden Land - 1080p.mkv X:\Media\Shows\Dune Prophecy (2024)\Season 01\UHD\Dune Prophecy - s01e01 - The Hidden Land - 4K.mkv Too bad I can't get the folders "HD and UHD" to be named "1080p and 4K" respectively because that way Emby will treat them as seasons. 2

Yea, all of my movies are split into two folder structures (one for 1080 and one for 4k) and then within each folder each movie has their own folder which also contains multiple files such as .srt for that specific file. I also keep trailer videos for each movie in the same folder since Roku does not allow the app to redirect you to Youtube to watch the trailer so I ended up using Trailarr to download them locally. From what I've seen, only the beta version of Emby Server support multi-version detection. Edited August 13, 2025 by gmichaelr

I do the same thing for trailers but looking at your files I feel like there's something else in your format. X:\Media\Movies\The Lord Of The Rings The Return Of The King (2003) - 4K.mkv X:\Media\Movies\The Lord Of The Rings The Return Of The King (2003) - 1080p.mkv X:\Media\Movies\The Lord Of The Rings The Return Of The King (2003)-trailer.mkv From what I can tell from your screenshot, the trailer's filename isn't "exactly" like the movie: 3-10 to Yuma (2007) Bluray-1080p.mkv 3-10 to Yuma-Trailer.mkv Can you rename the trailer to "3-to-10 to Yuma (2007)-trailer.mkv" (including the year and adding a lowercase t to the word trailer)? Also from what I can tell is that you need at least two versions before the dropdown appears, otherwise there is no "other" version to choose from. So in your example this should work regardless: 3-10 to Yuma (2007) Bluray-1080p.mkv 3-10 to Yuma (2007) OTHER-Bluray-1080p.mkv 3-10 to Yuma (2007)-trailer.mkv

That is why I had originally stated that I cannot wait for them to finally combine since the post is related to releasing 4.9.

I can't imagine any pressure behind having a dropdown with only one choice anyway. The user won't be able to select a different version anyway. The 4.9 release seems to be picking up speed again though so I'm hoping it'll release soon.
