bLight 2 Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 (edited) Hi Emby team, I'm the developer of Zoom Player and I'm writing client code for both Emby and Plex. One thing I noted is that performing any operation (seeking, switching embedded subtitle track) on the stream (no transcoding) using LAV Source Filter (A DirectShow wrapper for ffmpeg and other open-source media projects) is very very slow on even a local server, taking between 3-15 seconds for each action. It's better if I use libVLC as the media engine, but then I lose a lot of the functionality available only through DirectShow. Surprisingly, these operations are much faster when using a Plex server (again, on the same PC as the Emby server, streaming the exact same media file with no transcoding). I verified this issue is not specific to my PC, I've had several people test it against several servers. Is there anything that can be done to improve the performance? P.S. It's less noticeable if you're on a high-end machine. Edited December 19, 2024 by bLight
Luke 42077 Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Hi, can we please see a specific example? thanks.
bLight 2 Posted January 19, 2025 Author Posted January 19, 2025 Unfortunately, I can't quite quantify what's going on because the issue isn't as bad on a local server. I'll try to create a video showcasing the issue when/if I get a better handle on it. 1
