HP Pro Mini 400 G9 as an Emby server?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to set up a dedicated PC for my Emby server and came across a HP Pro Mini 400 G9 at a great price. It has the following specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-13500T (24MB cache, up to 4.6 GHz)
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 770

My typical usage involves streaming to:

  • Two 4K TVs (direct play or transcoding depending on the content).
  • One additional 1080p client.

I’d like to know if this setup would be sufficient for my needs, especially when it comes to handling multiple simultaneous streams, including possible 4K HDR transcoding. I'm planning on using it with a built-in 4TB SSD.

Any feedback on whether this hardware can handle the load? Would the Intel UHD 770 GPU be sufficient for hardware transcoding? Or should I look for something with a dedicated GPU?

Also, I'm wondering if I need the Emby Premiere or not.

Thanks for your insights!

This will be more than enough. I use an i5-1235u laptop personally and I have never run into issues with streaming or transcoding. Intel quicksync is king, period. When hard drive bandwidth is taken out of the equation, the UHD 770 can do 19 4k transcodes simultaneously. Byte my Bits did a video on this 2-3? years ago where he tested it with an SSD array to make the iGPU the bottleneck.
