nicholas_davies 15 Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 This all started happening when I updated to iOS 18. I'm not sure if this bug is known or not, but I wanted to post this just in case. Whenever I go into the media player on the Emby app and tap the screen to bring up the progress bar, the media always pauses. It is very annoying and it did not used to do that. Also, when you bring up the cast, there is no way to get rid of it without exiting the entire media player, which is extremely annoying. I've provided a screen recording below that can hopefully show the issue. Everytime the media stops is when I tapped the screen. Another thing that would be nice to add is to allow more precise scrolling through media. For example, with the Disney+ app I can drag my finger on the progress bar and it will show me small thumbnails of what would play at that time in the movie. With the Emby app I can't drag my finger to move the progress bar, I can only tap to get to certain places which is not as precise. ScreenRecording_12-18-2024 13-23-44_1.MP4 1
Luke 42077 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Hi, we are looking into this. Thanks for reporting.
nicholas_davies 15 Posted January 8, 2025 Author Posted January 8, 2025 @LukeThe problem with the video stopping on tap is fixed now with the most recent app update. However, it would be nice to add the feature of more precise scrolling like what Disney+ has. Thanks
nicholas_davies 15 Posted January 9, 2025 Author Posted January 9, 2025 @Luke In Emby I can use my finger to drag the progress bar, but it’s still not as user-friendly as other apps like Disney. For instance, in the Disney app, the progress bar features a small circle that you can hold and drag easily. In contrast, Emby lacks this feature, making it more difficult to drag the progress bar smoothly. More importantly, when you scroll through media in the Disney app, small thumbnails appear, which help make scrolling more precise. However, in Emby, it only shows the timestamp, so you have no visual reference for what’s being displayed at that moment. I’ve attached a screenshot of Disney and a screen recording of Emby to illustrate what I mean. Hopefully, this makes sense. ScreenRecording_01-08-2025 16-10-19_1.MP4

For this one, I think Video Preview Thumbnails need to be enabled in the Library settings on the emby Server.
nicholas_davies 15 Posted January 9, 2025 Author Posted January 9, 2025 @xandroOk, I enabled that option in both my Movies and TV Shows library. I scanned the library files and just refreshed the metadata files. However, my Movies have been stuck at 90% for the past 30-45 min or so. Is that normal?
xandro 1 Posted January 9, 2025 Posted January 9, 2025 I'd say yes. The speed of generating thumbnails depends on the size of your Libraries, the thumbnail images interval value you used, and the hardware your emby Server is running on. Quote More frequent thumbnails will result in a better experience, but will require more disk space and time to create the images.
nicholas_davies 15 Posted January 9, 2025 Author Posted January 9, 2025 Ok, I'll let you know if it works
nicholas_davies 15 Posted January 9, 2025 Author Posted January 9, 2025 @Luke That worked @xandro Thanks for that comment! 2
