Can you go to the remote control page under settings and test. Let me know which mappings are wrong.

Yes so...

Wrong mappings:

-  X -> channel down

-  Y -> channel up

-  A -> OK

Can you pleae make a photo of the remote control you have, then I'll buy one.

Although i have set yellow subtitles and transparent background in the settings....

Which type of subtitles are those? Can you show the media info section?

Repeating what I posted in the beta forum before I discovered this thread ...  Same video stuttering problem for me on Xbox One X.

Since updating the Emby app on my Xbox One, video files are now unwatchable with the app on that device.  I've only tried H.264 content and at various files and resolutions.  Audio codec and device audio configuration changes make no difference. Same result in all cases which is a flash of green then juddering video rendering.  A file with no audio track also exhibits the problem.

The same content plays fine using the web client on the same xbox.   Everything plays nicely with the new app on the Xbox Series X in another room.

Comparing logs on the server doesn't show any significant difference although I do see out of sequence post & response from the One.  Threading issue?  I'll grab logs from the apps and compare when I get a chance.

P.S. Another issue...

I use a different locale/UI translation in the app. Respectively different time format. However on app start clock is always in US format. After 30s about it switches to my setting...

Is that intended or its a real bug?

Also how about that tooltips that are shown on button select? That should be not shown in Xbox version of the app.

Nor switch to full screen in the player...That have meaning for windows app but not on Xbox where its always full screen

So the main problem (except the HEVC issue ofcource) is the subtitles that are nothing near what was it in the before version.

Hopefully that can be fixed soon...

Ofcource it will be good if other issues i mentioned can be addressed too but the first thing should be subtitles since that is core functionality of the player... ;)

I think the first thing that should be fixed is the stuttering on Xbox One's which makes them utterly useless with the current Emby App.

Agreed.  I have a house full of Xbox ones that should be more than capable of direct playing 720p and 1080p files, along with my mpeg2 TV streams and they are a stuttering mess.

@softworkzWould you like me to open up a new post with logs around this?

Thanks for the file. The size change is working fine on my side, and I also know why it's not working on your side:

You have made changes to the system settings for subtitles (Settings >> Accessibilty >> Captioning). Windows versions (11, not 10, but surely applies to xboxes as well) since about 3 years are having a very ugly bug. They changed the settings in a way that you can no longer revert settings that you made under "Captioning", like it was possible in Win 10.

And the second part of the ugliness: when you have made a change to the system settings, these are overriding the subtitle settings that the application makes. The application has no chance to override this on the Xbox, because it isn't able to make changes to the registry.
I have reported this bug about a year ago, but unfortunately, there's a congestion of bug and the team too small - nothing has happened.

Unfortunately, you have only these two options:

  • Factory-reset the Xbox and never go to those Captioning settings again
  • Make changes for subtitle appearance in the system settings

But first of all, go to the captioning settings to verify that I'm right...

Xbox One Users:

Please wait for the next update. Thanks.

So its a funny thing....

So "Captioning" was off in Xbox settings..However subtitle didnt change. Then i went back to captioning and turn them on and off and sudently settings in Emby app start working...

So now it is OK...Cool!

Oh, there's an "off" on Xbox?

On Windows, there's no "off":

There's always a "Default", which cannot be deleted:

And the individual settings don't have a neutral value either:

Can you show a photo of the Captioning settings on Xbox?
I'm too afraid to even enter that menu 🙂

Great, thanks! So it appears that the Xbox handles this a bit differently. And, the settings logic is combined with automatic captioning. The good side is that it can be switched off.

Now I also understand which @DimitarCChad to switch it on and off to get it working: The forced defaults that I've shown above have been rolled out as a registry change as part of a Windows update. And this has most likely hit the Xbox in the same way. It wasnt visible because the automatic captioning on/off is a different settng. But actively enabling and disabling caused the style values to be removed. This was Win10 behavior and early Win11 behavior and the Xbox does it the Win10 way.

@softworkzThe good thing is now subtitles working correctly. So i am happy about that...

Now left UI and Xbox media remote (RCU) to be resolved and it will be great....

( maybe @Luke)As for the UI are you interested in suggestions for the layout on TV mode (not only xbox but all app that use the same style like current xbox style)?

Just a remark what i think is not good in UI (on Xbox):

- not optimal layout - a lot of free space that cant be used

- abnormally large buttons compared to the text

- small clear logo (used for video title but too small for a title)

- lack of stylish sidebar in vertical mode

- constant tiny tooltips showing when selecting something (that seems to be left from windows but is not suitable for xbox or operations with RCU)

- existence of full screen switch (not usable for xbox...There its always fullscreen)

And something partially UI and server thing....

- Please allow video versions to have separate progress and possibility to define poster and banner! The poster/banner can shown in UI when selecting version. (or introduce new section "editions")

That is usable for movie editions....Now is inconvenient when i have a director's cut and theatrical cut and when i watch theatrical  director's cut version to resume from same place....

Initially, I downloaded v2.201.1, but in the meantime I downloaded Emby Windows & Xbox v2.207.20 (just an hour ago) through Microsoft app store and installed it immediately: great work guys!, although I found several minor matters/bugs unfortunately, but luckely I found the new app to work faster/crispier, better with 4K, but not jet good enough to be used as basis for Emby WMC....

Several bugs I found:

  • The EPG of Live-TV is not always disappearing after choosing a TV channel within the EPG
  • Watching Live-TV, the Remote Control (RC) still doesn't work for numerical keys, also channel+/- is not working (jet) and several others as well.
  • Although the new remore control test is working GREAT and shows that all keys of my Microsoft RC are working well, they don't do anything within other parts of the new Emby v2.207.20....not within the EPG, but also not viewing live-TV....making it clear that this is an Emby-internal issue....probably the core of Emby needs also to support RC keys 1-0, channel-+/-, etc.?
  • Working without PC-keyboard but only a RC, on several points the logic is not OK: sometimes exiting the EPG or a live-TV channel, etc. is in general not OK.

My advice is to test the use of a RC at your side yourselves in order to find the source of this issue.

Lot of success, keep up the good work!, grtz. Peter
