Optimizing Emby on a 4u Server: Tips for Better Performance

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently set up Emby on a 4u server and wanted to share my experience. After some adjustments, I’ve found a few tips that might help others running Emby on similar hardware.

I’m using an Intel Xeon 8-core CPU, 64GB RAM, and a 10TB hard drive for my media library. The 4u server space allows for efficient cooling and easy scalability for storage.

Emby Installation & Configuration:

I installed Emby on Ubuntu Server, which was straightforward. Properly organizing my media into separate folders for movies, TV shows, and music has helped Emby’s metadata agent work efficiently.

Performance Tips:

  1. Hardware Transcoding: Enabling GPU transcoding significantly reduces CPU load, especially for 4K content.
  2. Network: A wired gigabit connection is essential for smooth streaming.
  3. Backup: Set up automatic backups and consider RAID for redundancy.

Using Emby on a 4u server has been great for scalability and performance. It’s a solid choice if you’re planning to run a large media server. Any other tips for optimizing Emby on similar setups would be appreciated!

Looking forward to hearing from others!

Hi

Thanks for the share and yep nice begin with a proper media server ;) You have quite some space for extra storage in future and build a raid for media storage ;)

You run it under Linux I guess ?
