Can’t add video or audio libraries

I’ve installed Emby server on my DS124 Synology NAS and I’ve been trying to add video and audio content. I’ve given the internal emby internal account access to the video and audio shared service. But when I open Emby (either the iPad app or the web version) and try to add video and audio, I can’t! I press the + button to add a location, scroll down to “volume1”, then scroll down to “video” but then, no response. No error but the folder doesn’t open. Same with audio. But I can add the “photos” folder! So the Emby server can access my NAS but it doesn’t recognize the access permissions for video/audio! Can someone help me out on this?

The NAS is running DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 2, the Emby server is 4.8.10.0. Any help much appreciated!

Hi,

Is Video a share you created that you gave internal emby user access to?

Hi Carlo,

"video", "music", "photo" are called "System default shared folder" in DSM (DiskStation Manager, the software for administrating a Synology NAS).I can play the files in the "music" folder using the "DS Audio" app, I can see files and folders within these folders using "DS File". In DSM, I've given the "emby" system internal user access to "video" and "music" but the Emby app still can't access these folders. I haven't given the emby account access to the "photo" folder but I can access content from this folder.

I've tried uninstalling/re-installing the Emby server on my NAS but that hasn't solved matters. I've followed the instructions at https://kb.synology.com/vi-vn/DSM/tutorial/How_to_transfer_video_files_from_Video_Station_to_Emby, it should work.

But it doesn't.

That's not a good idea to do.

What you have to take into consideration is that video, photo, music folders are user centric. Each logged in user gets a version that is their content (or shared). So while you are logged in with your username you have access to those files. Log in with a different username and they will have their own set of these files, or none if they haven't added any.

Emby runs under its own username and won't have access to your personal files.

Instead, what you want to do is create a new share that you give internal emby user and group access to. In this share you migrate the media files to and setup as libraries in Emby.

Yes, this put me on the right track. I created a new shared folder on my NAS, gave the emby internal system user access, and copied the content of the "video" and "music" folders to my new "Emby" folder. I could then create movie and music libraries on my Emby apps on my iPhone/iPad.

As far as I can tell, the new Emby folder has the same access rights and properties as the old "video" and "music" shared folders on the NAS. The "video" and "music" folders were created by the "Video station" and "Audio station" packages when they were installed on the NAS. Possibly, these packages added restrictions that prevented other apps from accessing the "video" and "music" folders. However that may be, I can now use the Emby app to listen to music and watch videos. Many thanks!
