Do I need a server

So finally got a shield.

I instaleld emby through the play store.

I got an external hdd connected to the shield.

Do i still need emby server?

I think so right?

If that is where you decide to store your media that will be shown in Emby.

External hard drive, the WD MyBook 12 TB

@Lukedo i really need to do step 8, otherwise i will start to fill the external drive

Or can i format the drive to ntfs and then create a folder NVIDIA_SHIELD and subfolder "Movies" or do i really need to connect it to the shield first? @Carlo

If i install emby server on the shield and my movies are on external drive.

Will emby server store its metadata on the shield or on the external drive?

Depends on your library settings if you store images and write nfo file with media, if not metadata is only written to database and images as written to Emby /metadata folder.
