masterabc 1 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I build a truenas system ElectricEel-24.10.0.2 with this processor i3-n305 I purchased emby premiere for one month. Emby still doesn't detect any hardware acceleration. However, if I connect to a shell in the emby container and run vainfo it detects many profiles. What I can do?
masterabc 1 Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 Some additions: Container is running as root and the container has the device configuratio: Devices:[ { CgroupPermissions:"rwm", PathInContainer:"/dev/dri", PathOnHost:"/dev/dri" }
softworkz 5066 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 @masterabc - Can you please post the hw detection log?

Just as a note: The detection is not dependant on a Premiere subscription, just the use of HWA when transcoding.
masterabc 1 Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 Here's the hw detection log hardware_detection-63869117889.txt.crdownload
softworkz 5066 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Thanks, so it seems that it cannot open the device: Under which user account is Emby server running? You can check the owner of the hw detection log on disk for example to see this.
masterabc 1 Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 In the container it's owner 568: apps. Then I gave apps the groups video and render in the truenas os outside of the container. But still no success in accessing the device.

Doesn't it need those permissions inside the container rather than outside? And I'm not sure whether "apps" is the right user. Unfortunately I'm not the right one to help as I'm not familiar with TrueNAS and our package for it. @alucryd- Can you help?
masterabc 1 Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Actually its a problem of the container definition. I rolled back to the app version 1.1.16, there it works. Later versions are broken. So it's not an emby problem. Who creates the emby app container for truenas scale ee? A truenas team? My workaround is using the older version, but of course someone should fix that flaw.

alucryd 315 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 @masterabcWhich chart did you use? The official chart does not offer a 1.1.16 version, last 1.x was 1.0.30 and current version is 2.0.13. HW accel works out of the box here using the official chart.

Truenas scale electric eel doesn't use charts and kubernetes anymore. Now docker images are used.
alucryd 315 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Thanks for the heads up, I'll need to try the latest version of TrueNas then. I don't know which docker image they use, nor how they use it.
Solution masterabc 1 Posted December 12, 2024 Author Solution Posted December 12, 2024 20 hours ago, softworkz said: @Lukeshould be able to answer that It is solved now. I wrote in the truenas forum and there I did create a bug report. Somebody from the truenas team did solve the bug already. The next version 1.2.5 will have that fix. 1
softworkz 5066 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Great to hear that! And thanks a lot for letting us know.
alucryd 315 Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Confirmed, Intel is detected in version 1.2.5.
