Pietrogramma 3 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Hi everyone, I have many audio tracks where, using the MP3Tag software, I have inserted the main author under the Author heading and any other participants in the music session, under the "Album author" heading. I therefore created a library on Emby with all these music files, but sorting the files based on the author. also includes the information I put on "author of the song" in the list. I attach a photo where you can see that, despite having chosen the order based on the author, it then inserts a whole series of other information relating to the TAG author of the song (see B.B. King feat... for example). How can I have only the songs classified based on the author and not also those based on the Author of the Song? I hope I explained myself well. Thanks very mutch and ciao

Hi, from what you have described, perhaps you may be putting your info into Mp3tag in a non-standard way? Normally the Song Author and any other participants are shown in the “Artist” section of the relevant individual song only. The Album Author is the only one typically shown in the “Album Artist" section. If you follow this convention then Emby will only show Album Artists under the Album Artists menu tab and Album Artists plus Artists under the Artists menu tab. I loaded the B.B. King 80 Album into Mp3tag and then used MusicBrainz as a Tag source to update the info. Here are the results: IMPORTANT: Also, remember to check all extended tags in Mp3tag as per below: Then, upon importing into Emby (using Scan Library Files) you should see 1 Artist under “Album Artists” (B.B King) and 13 Artists under “Artists” (B.B King plus the supporting Artists). Once you have the correct info in the correct fields in Mp3tag, then use the Album Artists menu tab in Emby for the primary Album Artists only and the Artists menu tab for all underlying Artists on the Album and Songs. Hopefully this makes sense? Cheers!!! 1
Pietrogramma 3 Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 First of all thanks for replying, I renamed the tags of my files according to your advice and now it is definitely tidier. I don't understand, though, why for some files there is no way to arrange the cataloguing by "artist" and by "album artist". For example, with MP3TAG I renamed all the files in Terente Trent D'Arby's discography by assigning "Terence Trent D'Arby" as a name (both artist and "album artist") for all the tracks, but in the cataloguing it gives me five different Terence Trent D'Arby files. Shouldn't it only give me one Terence Trent D'Arby in both the "Artist" and in "Album Artist" section? Instead, as you can see, it gives me four. Where am I going wrong? Thanks and ciao
user24 313 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) You are correct with what you are assuming should be the end result, IF you have only one "Album Artist" name used. BUT there is one more thing you need to check with Mp3tag that could still be causing problems. In your last example image the LHS Tag Panel where you have "Arista" and "Artista Album" circled in red, (by default) does NOT show all the tags in your music files. To see ALL tags you need to "View>Extended Tags" from the menu or "alt-T" from your keyboard. This will bring up another window. In this window you may see that you have BOTH "Album Artist" and "AlbumArtist" tags and possibly other tags that you were not aware of. With your example, if "Album Artist" and "AlbumArtist" are not all "Terence Trent D'Arby" then you will get the result you are seeing now. Also, there may be other various Artist tags with the different names you are seeing? Depending upon where you originally obtained your music and how it was tagged, there could be these "extended" or "hidden" tag issues. If you make both "Album Artist" and "AlbumArtist" the same, (and any others) then this should hopefully fix the problem. Edited December 8, 2024 by user24
Pietrogramma 3 Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 Thank you so much for your help, now my music library is finally in order. I have finally understood "how Emby thinks" and I have adjusted. It still gives me errors from time to time, but now I know how to solve them. Thanks a lot again and bye 1
