7.1 gets downmixed to 2 channel.

I can't seem to get Emby and my surround system to work with 7.1 sound.

I got a 7.1 receiver but with 5.1 setup, when ever i set Emby to play a video with a 7.1 audio track it just goes down to 2 channel.
Playing a video with 5.1 works without problems.

I tried setting up some mixing on the TV/receiver but all that does is just upmixing 2 channel to surround instead of downmixing the 7.1 to 5.1.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

I will generate the logs when i get back down to the TV, gotten to late and don't want to wake every one.

But basically Emby refuses to send a 7.1 track to the TV/receiver and instead sends a 2.0 signal.
In Emby for Android TV i can get it to transcode to 5.1 on the server when setting "Convert unsupported formats to Dolby" but my TV system is more than capable of decoding the signal.
The audio formats i have tried to use are all supported by my TV system, even tried converting an audio track in a video to AAC but got the same result.
Using external player in Emby solves the problem but ofc. adds the other problems of no time tracking and such.

Will as said add logs from the TV later when i can and if needed.

@yockerthat would be great. Thanks !

I generated the logs in the Emby for Android TV app.

Been googling the issue since i made the post.
There are several people having problems with Exoplayer not passing through a 7.1 signal when using Exoplayer on the TV it self for some reason.

For now all that works if i want surround is:
Use external device to play the video.
Use a 5.1 audio source.
Use external player.

Yeah, I'm not sure any TVs internal version of Android will pass 7.1.  Only 5.1.

Do try the standard app though in case it can prove me wrong.

The standard app actually does a worse job as it doesn't have the option "convert unsupported formats to dolby" which when used transcodes 7.1 to 5.1.
Using external player does work with 7.1 though receiver does say 5.1 so transcoding is happening some where, TV, amplifier or app i don't know.

But it it sure does seem like a limitation of hardware though it bothers me a little that external player can transcode 7.1 to 5.1 while Emby's Exoplayer lowers it to 2.0.

Anyway, not the biggest problem as i always have a 5.1 compatibility track on any 7.1 movie, just annoying to have to pick that track every time. ;)
Consider this case closed.

It has been an outstanding request to be added to the Universal Android app for over 3 years but still not added.
