Different NFO displayed for multi-version movies

Hello,

Situation :

  1. Version 4.8.10.0
  2. A movie with 2 version : Theatrical and Extended.
  3. I've edited the synopsis from the GUI because I wanted to highlight the difference between the versions for the users.
  4. Everything displays correctly once I click save.
  5. Now, click on Home and search for the same movie.
  6. If you click on the movie in the top results tab, the default nfo is displayed.
  7. If you click on the movie in the movies tab, the edited nfo is displayed.  @Happy2Play

Observation:

  1. In my case I've seen that the NFO file of the Theatrical version is the one being modified from the GUI.
  2. The NFO of the Extended version is still unmodified.
  3. So it looks like the top results tab is reading the Extended NFO while the movies tab is reading the Theatrical NFO.

Expected results:

  1. A change in the synopsis, and more generaly in anything written in the NFO file should be propagated to all versions of the movie.

Workaround:

  1. Edit manually the unedited nfo.

Screenshots attached to make more sense. In my case we can see when clicking on the movies tab and then on the movie that the synopsis offers a "more" button because I've added the detail of the extended version.

Edited NFO of the Theatrical version:

@Okeur75this is currently how multiple versions work, although things may change in the future. But right now they can all have their own unique description.

@LukeI understand but there is no way from the GUI to change the description of the non default-version of a movie.

If you take Extended, and Theatrical version for example. You selected the Extended version, you click on edit metadata and change the description and click save.

Then you select the Theatrical version, the description displayed is different (it's not the one you just edited since it's reading it's own nfo file), you click edit metadata, the description is the one from the Extended version, but it is not the one displayed.

So there is no way from the GUI to have a consistent description of a multi-version movie, and that's what I wanted to point out.

Solutions, I can think of 2

  1. When editing the metadata from the GUI, it should edit the metadata for all versions (thus all nfo file).
  2. When editing the metadata from the GUI , it should edit the metadata of the version selected.

HI, yes this is something that we need to look at improving.

If they have different titles you may be able to get to a specific one using search.

@LukeIt does not work with different title. I've just tried to change their title but it does not work since the search field seems to be limited to 42 characters in length, and the difference in the title happens later.

To be crystal clear : They have different file name, which follow the naming convention to be recognized as multi-version movie.

The 3rd solution I can think of would be to click on "split version apart" so it would appear as 2 different movies in the search results, but it would lead to more confusion for the users who may click on the extended version by mistake instead of the regular one.

I don't think we should be looking for a workaround, I just wanted to grab your attention on this behavior, for the day you have time to work on it, no big deal, and no urgent matter 🙂

Best regards,

We will increase this.

And yes, more compressive changes are probably needed, but that is something quick that can be done immediately. Thanks.
