Hi again and thanks for your support. I am not sure that's the file you require, do not hesitate to point me in the right direction.

I watch a movie yesterday in AAC 5.1 with a 5.1 output define in Emby and Atmos in Windows (see previous screen).

That isn't the mpv log. Look in the app settings

Settings > about > log files

Attach the corresponding log that starts with mpv

Thanks for the clarification - so the menu is from Dolby Atmos - that's probably why I've never seen it.

I don't blame you. It's well hidden, need to be install with Windows Store and not much documentation online sadly. I am hoping my few screens we'll help some lost soul in the futur

But there's one thing I do not quite understand: What's the purpose of the Atmos software on Windows? I mean, when you play a video with Atmos in a TrueHD stream with passthrough to HDMI - for what is the Atmos software on Windows?

I dont have this entry on my log (I even look with ctrl +f).

My : C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\logs

Doesn't contain an mpv.log either. I am sorry it's frustrating, thank you for your patience.

If my memory serve me right I didn't had any sound before adding Atmos. Could be my sound splitter or Windows. I will try without Dolby Atmos to see if there is any change.

@softworkz It would be nice if we could right click and copy the log directly, and not have to open it then save it.

I hate myself, good call. I just attach the file.

@softworkz : You were right too. I assume Dolby Atmos was needeed, it is not.

As I said, WASAPI is limiting it to stereo and downmixing.

No.

The audio driver does not offer any other format than stereo.

@Julien_NC - Please remove the Atmos stuff, so that it goes directly to Nvidia audio.

I know that it's needed for games that support Atmos to use Atmos for headphones. If gaming with a receiver for surround sound I believe it's also needed.

I don't have an Atmos receiver myself, so this is all just speculation on my part. I plan on getting one at some point, mainly for my Xbox though.

This also makes me curious as to how Atmos is handled on the Xbox, especially when it comes to emby.

On Xbox if I'm using headphones and have spacial audio set to Atmos for headphones I can play the Atmos audio stream on services like Netflix.

You have to have the Dolby access app to get this. There's also an equivalent app for DTS.

When you have that Atmos stuff out of the way, then go to speaker configuration of the Nvidia audio like here:

image.png

And there you configure 5.1 then retry in the Emby app

I can't use 5.1. The only option I have are Stereo and Atmos.

My output is my graphic card and it's kinda dumb that's why I even have to use an audio splitter.

See the new log file attach when I use Stereo. It looks like the result is the same.

And if you connect the HDMI cable directly to the SONOS? (I know you won't have a picture, but it will generate a log we can look at)

I wanted to say the same, try something else with HDMI, it probably detects that the end point can only accept stereo (uncompressed).

But does Sonos take 5.1 audio? Isn't it for multi-room audio, but not for multichannel home cinema audio?

Yeah, because it has an optical output. Once Windows sees an active optical port, all you get is stereo

It's a soundbar for hometheater
