Emby remote connection does not work .

Recommended Posts

Hi, I need some advice. My remote connection is not working. I have an emby connection account, my email is saved with the user, and remote connections are enabled. In the network settings, I also have remote connections and automatic port mapping enabled. I have UPnP enabled on my router. But when I connect remotely via emby connection, it doesn't work. Did I forget something?

Hi there, what exactly happens when you try to remote connect?

Hi. The home page appears, I enter my email and password via emby connection, log in and it takes me back to the home screen.

Did you try clicking on a server?

Posted

Yes, the Synology server is working fine, I can only access it via my home network.

OK, try clicking add server and entering the address manually. Please see if that helps. Thanks.

No, I'll try after work. I just don't understand why it's so complicated. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Let us know how you get on. Thanks.

Why were you entering public port 8086 in the host on Add Server

Anyway - on Add Server, the host is just the IP address and the port is entered on the next line in the port field

So it would be

Host  - enter your 78.102.xx.xx public IP Address

Port - enter 8096

If you have automatic port mapping enabled then Emby Server would setup the mapping of public port 8096 to your local IP Address 192.168.0.194

Of course if you have more than one Emby Server on the local network then this will not work as the first server to be setup will take the default 8096 port for the mapping and it will no longer be available for the 2nd server. In such case, you need to setup individual port mappings in the router with different public port for each server and in EMby Settings disable auto mapping and specify the public ports you selected for each server in the port forwards on the router

I have this on my router, see the picture. I don't understand it anymore, it's complicated for me and I'm afraid I'll mess something up on my router.

That is the ROMAN-Lenovo PC on 192.168.0.36 and appears to be a manual port forward for 8096 for http and 8920 for https

So for the Synology to be accessed remotely - you need to use different ports and either automatic port mapping or manually setup forwards

eg

192.168.0.194 TCP local port 8096  remote port 8097

192.168.0.194 TCP local port 8920 remote port 8921

as examples

so you would use wan ports 8097 and 8921 for the NAS and 8096 and 8920 for the lenovo

make sure both IP addresses are static / DHCP Reserved

I removed the Lenovo PC server and turned on automatic port mapping. But still nothing.

sorry - what does that mean exactly

Can you please look into the whole setup

- In the router - what DHCP Reservations do you have for the Synology and Lenovo

- In the router - what port forwarding do you have manually setup for the Synology and Lenovo

- In Emby Server for the Lenovo what do you have in Server Settings for the WAN / Remote HTTP and HTTPS ports and do you have port mapping automatic or manual ?

If you have manually created the port forwards in the router then automatic mapping in Emby Server settings need to be disabled

and is the admin user linked to the Emby Connect account?

- In Emby Server for the Synology what do you have in Server Settings for the WAN / Remote HTTP and HTTPS ports and do you have port mapping automatic or manual ?

If you have manually created the port forwards in the router then automatic mapping in Emby Server settings need to be disabled

and is the admin user linked to the Emby Connect account?

And if you change the settings restart each server - safer option

The router still knows about the Lenovo

You have 2 options

1. Assuming the lenovo will never launch Emby Server again - you could just reboot the router check that Port Forward to 192.168.0.36 has disappeared and if it has then you could just run the Synology with default ports and automatic port mapping enabled

2. A safer option - change the port numbers to use for the Synology. For example - have 8097 for remote / wan port for http and 8921 for remote / wan port for https and have automatic port mapping enabled. Keep local ports as they are 8096 and 8920 in Emby Server settings. The server should then be reachable through http on the WAN IP Address and port 8097.

restart the server a few minutes after saving the changes

Which of the two options I suggested you went for and resolved the issue?
