fox1986 11 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I started with Emby on my NAS today. Everything works fine. I've installed Emby for Android and can access my server, but I found no button or option to unlock the app. Is this feature removed or only visible at end of trial? I also tried emby for Android TV. Here the behavior is even more bizarre: There is an unlock app button on the main screen which brings me to a screen to reactivate a premium subscription (which I never had)???? What's going on here,? Is there any way to unlock this app? I don't want a subscription.
Luke 42077 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Hi, what version number of the app do you have?

fox1986 11 Posted December 4, 2024 Author Posted December 4, 2024 I was already confused about 2 different Emby apps and unlock requirements So I tried both: Emby for Android 3.4.20 (applied for beta):Unlock feature missing Emby for Android TV 2.21g (no beta): Unlock button there but broken, redirect to subscription. Im a totally confused right now. Emby For Android TV nags to unlock with 1min limit in place, although it's said it's on trial till Dec 24th, Emby for Android has no unlock feature and i have no clue how long trial works. Any clear/non misleading wiki about that?

The one-time unlock has been removed in favor of free playback for up to five devices. So "unlocking" the app beyond that is done with Premiere. 12 minutes ago, fox1986 said: Emby For Android TV nags to unlock with 1min limit in place, Well, I'm confused too because there has never been a 1 minute limit on playback in the Android TV app. 12 minutes ago, fox1986 said: Emby for Android has no unlock feature That is the app that should be currently limited to 1 minute of playback if you don't have Premiere. Are you using your own server or someone else's?
fox1986 11 Posted December 4, 2024 Author Posted December 4, 2024 So I try to sum up in my own words: - Informations in the app store and website are wrong as there is no unlock option for the Android App as described - Android App requires subscription to disable the limit as the only option - Android TV app, if you decide for beta, allow unlimited streaming on up to 5 devices and again there is no unlock option but subscription only if you go beyond that. I wished all that documentation out there had been clear about that in the first place. 1

We are currently in a transition phase on this policy. As soon as everything is aligned, we will also have the descriptions aligned. Right now, it is not black and white as it depends on which app and which platform (the Android app does still have an unlock on mobile devices).

I've downloaded the recent, non beta version of Emby for Android on my Smartphone but I can't find that unlock option. Can you tell me where I can find that option in the app? Thanks for your help.

ebr 16169 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Are you sure you didn't previously purchase an unlock for that app?
fox1986 11 Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 1 hour ago, ebr said: Are you sure you didn't previously purchase an unlock for that app? Yes I am. I just heard about emby a few days ago. The TV App beta tells me I am on trial period, the Android app doesn't say anything, also no unlock option.
fox1986 11 Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 (edited) Any more ideas? I tried the following on my Android Smartphone (Pixel 7 running Android 15) and also my Tablet (Android 11): - deleted Cache and Date, reinstalled App - reinstalled 3.4.20 from the store: no unlock option - installed 3.4.27 APK from your website: no unlock option - updated my server to latest version: no unlock option in the app - created Emby connect account: no unlock option in the app Probably it's simply broken? Hi, where are you looking for it?
fox1986 11 Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 Out of desperation, I actually checked the whole app. All menus and buttons. I only see that option to subscribe for Emby premiere. There is also no pop-up mentioning anything when playing videos.

That's nice for know, but sounds like a glitch/bug for me that might not work in the future. All in all your subscription/unlock policy is still a mystery for me. On another thread you recommended me to simply use the standard app on TV as well, since the two apps are gonna be merged soon anyways. However this solution does not work either as the standard app is restricted to one minute on my TV and can't be unlocked either. Unlock button is there but broken and opens subscription dialogue. For me as a potential customer, it's a frustrating situation as I like Emby and want to buy your product, but I get more and more the impression that nobody from the Emby team actually knows/communicate what and how products can be bought, which are free and which are subscription only.

Hi. The Android implementations are in a bit of a flux right now and we need to get them aligned but as for the rest: Emby Premiere Feature Matrix
