terse 1 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) Can movie metadata be placed in the metadata folder like actor metadata(/home/emby/metadata/people) for emby to recognize? My emby is built on a Linux server. Because the server has limited storage, my media library files are in my network disk "similar to Google drive". I mount the network disk to the Linux server to add media files to emby, and everything is fine. But my media library is very, very large, with about 30,000 movies, and new movies are added frequently. When adding new movies to the library, I have created nfo and poster image metadata for each movie. Currently, I can only put the metadata and movie files into one folder (on the network disk). Emby will scan the movie files and then download and view nfo files and poster images on the network disk frequently(It is caching metadata) which will cause a huge amount of access and download processes (downloading nfo and poster images) to the network disk service. For this reason, the network disk service provider has prompted to limit my account function. So I suggest adding a feature to use the metadata of each movie directly to the linux server's /home/emby/metadata/movie folder This way emby can also recognize and use, and each movie has a separate folder to save nfo, poster and other metadata files. Emby can directly recognize them locally without downloading from the network disk. This function is very helpful for network disk users, because emby only needs to read video files from the network disk. Edited December 3, 2024 by terse
Solution Lessaj 467 Posted December 3, 2024 Solution Posted December 3, 2024 Have you explored this option for your libraries? 1

I've turned this option on for that, and now the process for emby is: I upload the nfo and poster to my cloud drive account - emby downloads the nfo and poster from my cloud drive - then caches it to the server's metadata folder - emby recognizes it for use My desired process (hopefully added to the options): I upload the nfo and poster directly to the server's metadata folder -- emby recognizes it for use

Didn't solve my problem, I had the option to keep a cached copy turned on in my settings before I initiated the problem. Luke 42077 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 OK that is currently not supported. Nfo files are only supported in media folders, at this time at least.
