pmac 143 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) As the title says, I'm having issues playing 4k videos with the Android app. I haven't had much chance to experiment yet, and I don't have a lot of 4k content, but I've tried playing the same videos in the "Emby for Android TV" app that I've had issues with in the standard "Emby for Android" app, and haven't noticed any issues whatsoever while using the "TV" version of the app. Playback is perfectly smooth. I know that app is being phased out, and I greatly prefer the new one anyway, so it's frustrating that I can't seem to play 4k videos without the app crashing. Sometimes I can watch half an hour or so before the video starts to stutter/freeze briefly. Sometimes I have issues right away. Eventually though, the app will crash back to the Google TV home screen, and/or completely freeze my TV/Get a black screen, and require me to reboot the TV. If there's any particular logs I can provide, I'd be more than happy to post them if it'll help. Thanks Edit: I forgot to add, I'm watching on a Hisense U68N with the built-in Google TV OS Edited December 3, 2024 by pmac
asquare3376 6 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 There should be just 1 latest and greatest version of app for users to play with. I don't know what the admins have been thinking lately
Luke 42077 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 HI, yes we are working on unifying them into one app. Thanks.

Any ideas as to what might be going on with 4k playback between the two apps? I can get some logs together if that helps if you can give me some ideas as to which logs would be helpful. Not sure if it's a hardware or software issue in my case

I have my home automation server set up to access the api extremely frequently (every 5 seconds from what I remember) to gather a lot of data to populate a ton of custom home assistant sensors, so my server logs are likely very, very bloated. Should I disable that temporarily and delete my logs to start fresh before grabbing a server log for you?

pmac 143 Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 @Luke I've saved a server log (with debug enabled), but when I tried to send an Android log via the "SHARE" button on the log page, it just gave me an error when pressing the button. I'm not sure how to save that log file in order to send it. I've attached my embyserver.txtserver log for now, though. 1
pmac 143 Posted January 7, 2025 Author Posted January 7, 2025 @Lukehardware-wise, is the newer Android app much more demanding than the old Android TV app or Fire TV app? I'm still having issues with 4k content through the newer Android app on my Hisense running Google TV, and have also noticed similar issues with another tv when using an old Fire Stick (I think it's one of the earliest gen's) and the newer app. The Firestick has no issues with the older app though.

On newer devices it will perform just as well as the TV app.
