trevorphillips 3 Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 I recently set up Emby on a low-end VPS that lacks significant storage capacity. I also have another VPS with ample storage (hundreds of GB) but insufficient RAM to host Emby. Alternatively, I'm considering using a cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive for storage. Is it possible to host my media files on one of these storage options and access them from Emby? Essentially, I'd like to have Emby running on the low-end VPS, while the media files reside elsewhere. Any advice or insights on how to set this up effectively would be greatly appreciated!*
Whitepyro 2 Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Rsync?? I've never used it. But I know it's along the lines of what you're asking...
trevorphillips 3 Posted November 30, 2024 Author Posted November 30, 2024 Rsync helps synchronize and transfer files. I want to host my files for Emby outside my server. Different I think
hapylestat 10 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 What you need is a file streaming, while dropbox or gdrive mostly only sync them (i.e. you require some buffer space on vps and time.....). Thus you need to check, how particular "mount" solution is implemented
trevorphillips 3 Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 I think mounting is the right thing. I have been researching that.
guunter 49 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 You can do this by having the two vps talk via vpn. Then on the storage server you setup smb for the Emby server to access the files. On the Emby server you create mount points that Emby can map to. This is just a quick overview. You didn’t give enough specifics of your setup but this is a round about way of how you can do it.
kikinjo 281 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 You can have any vps with any compatibe storage that can be mounted via rclone. Reserch rclone first, than set it up.
