SjunkIeT 1 Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 I noticed that resuming plaback takes 40 seconds to start. It used to be instant. Attached log of starting it directly from internal server IP using Edge. Starting it directly from server using Emby Theatre Windows App. And starting it from external connection using edge. All take roughly 40 seconds. I tried changing the DB memory cache to 4096Mb, vacuming the DB. But no help. Any suggestions or ideas welcome. embyserver.txt
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Are you resuming a large media file that needs transcoding? I suspect there may be a delay if the transcoding needs to happen again to reach the required resume point. Paul
SjunkIeT 1 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 No its "small" files 2.5Gb ish direct playing. Takes 40 seconds to resume playing. Starting from beginning instant start.
visproduction 315 Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 I wonder if the info screen is accurate for the user. Did you pull up this info on a system that can playback EAC3 audio without transcoding? Check the playback stats in the player to see if EAC3 audio is actually playing. EAC3 audio only plays back in limited situations. If a user doesn't have one of those prefect browser or TV setups. EAC3 will force an encode to start.
SjunkIeT 1 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) With screen from server: Hm in the Emby Theatre Windows App the file does not start at all. And on my chromcast it starts instantly: Edited November 29, 2024 by SjunkIeT
SjunkIeT 1 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) Its local connection. Direct from laptop Edge to http port 8096 on emby server same behaviour. From laptop connecting Edge https through NGINX proxy manager same behaviour. Emby Theatre directly connecting to http port of emby server same behaviour. Maybe its just the file idk.. I tried a couple in my queue to resume but all have sameish behaviour. 20 - 30 seconds before it starts. I tried google chrome browser, and low and behold it just starts imidiatly. But on chrome its transcoding the audio: Edited November 29, 2024 by SjunkIeT
SjunkIeT 1 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 Seems like its related to something in windows 11. Blank Windows Server 2022 VM with Edge 131.0.2903.70 starts playing instantly but transcoded audio: Blank Windows 11 VM with Edge 131.0.2903.70 takes a bit to start playing. But directly plays.
visproduction 315 Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Related? - Raw EC3 codec not supported for Windows 11 - detailed forum post. https://github.com/video-dev/hls.js/issues/4958 Why not test a demo file, downloadable online that has no errors in metadata nor codec issues and see if that works? https://espressif-docs.readthedocs-hosted.com/projects/esp-adf/en/latest/design-guide/audio-samples.html You can also test the media file for problems using ffprobe with a full ffmpeg 64 bit install or with some other apps. Just because it plays back somewhere else on another browser or player, doesn't say anything. There could still be issues with the media file. https://ffmpeg-api.com/learn/ffprobe Hope that helps.
Luke 42079 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 @SjunkIeTso it only takes a long time when direct playing and resuming?
SjunkIeT 1 Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 correct From my observations it seems only to happen with It resumes fine with this: Th This experience is the same across multiple windows 11 devices clean VM or Laptops
SjunkIeT 1 Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 Its only in MS Edge and Emby Theater app on Windows 11 as they both directly play it. Chrome transcodes it and resumes instantly. Other browsers I have not tested. Can do, just let me know
visproduction 315 Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Chrome requires transcoding and MS Edge handles EC3 direct play. I would expect this to be all true... no surprise. Perhaps Edge needs to do extra processing to handle the EC3 audio and that could be causing the delay. See: https://www.stellarinfo.com/blog/media-problems-with-microsoft-edge/ I personally think Edge is too top heavy. Typically, dev production teams ask me to not bug test for Edge anymore for online large ECommerce sites. Various companies have just said they are not interested in fixing any bugs related to Edge. They mention the percentage of use is too low.
