Ronstang 294 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 I realize there are people that like sterile movie posters but to me they look stupid. Taking an original poster and erasing most of the lettering except the title looks atrocious to me. If you go back to the dawn of cinema the posters to get people into the theaters were actually art and many are beautiful. I want all the words and lettering etc. because that is how they looked. I also want the borders, they are like a frame for the artwork. I realize emby has a decent selection of artwork for popular movies but very limited for those more obscure titles, of which I have many. I am particular about the artwork. I spend a lot of time touching up what is available to get a better version for my server. Google searches rarely show many hits so many think the artwork is not out there but there is a great resource for those willing to look and also do a little editing. Check out Heritage Auctions online. Create a free account so you can download high resolution images. Most of the posters they have are for older classic movies but those are also the hardest to find. At a minimum most need to have the added boarder from Heritage Auctions to "matt" the poster for proper scanning has to be removed and if you are not happy with the lines and blemishes they are easily edited out with Paint.NET if need be and you are willing to spend time, like I am. I usually have about an 80%+ success rate finding a poster on this website that I cannot find a good non sterile or cropped version of anywhere else. And it is the best place to find posters that don't seem to exist online or the quality of ones available is so low they are almost unusable. This is the single best resource I have found for older movie posters and IMP Awards is one of the better for more newer movies, but they also have a lot of older movies too and they only have original type non-edited posters too. I hope this is helpful to some. I have doing a lot of posters lately and have been using HA to replace a lot of posters I thought I could not find last time I visited this issue.
pünktchen 1409 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 I use MoviePosterDB and CineMaterial.
Ronstang 294 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 With CineMaterial you have an annoying watermark to edit out, not with HA. And neither of those have as high or resolution or selection to choose from. I just checked MoviePostersDB for he one I am working on right now and the one the have is the same one I am trying to replace because it is low rez and nasty looking.
pünktchen 1409 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 You need credits to download high resolution images, but that is very very cheap.
