ScipiusMaximus 2 Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Hi All, Have been using Emby for quite a while as fallback for my Kodi installation. Am currently considering to replace Kodi altogether with Emby. Before I do, there is one thing that I would prefer to have worked out though: Currently, whenever I have a "Extras" folder anywhere in a TV show, the files in that folder show up as "Specials". This is kind of annoying since it clutters the actual "specials / season 0" folder contents. But also often gives wrong naming. In my case the "Extras" folder always contains things like "making of" videos. Is there any configuration I can set, or plugin I can install, to make those "Extras" appear separately under a TV show? Actually the way "Extras" are being handled as part of a movie would be perfect. 1

Luke 42078 Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Hi there, how are your files named and organized?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Currently the only way extras are not Season 0 also is if they are attached to a specific episode. Series and Season extras currently fall into the same category. Removed some rows to better see but a little busy as was testing multi-versioning also. So you have two methods at episode level requiring additional episode folder layer (same as a movie) or adding -extratype.ext to the file. Both somewhat covered in the KB. https://emby.media/support/articles/TV-Naming.html#tv-extras:~:text=It is also possible to add the type of extra as filename suffix extensions%2C as for the following 1
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I take it you'd like an extra folder to show up alongside the season and specials folder, such as "clean" or "interviews". It is (or has been) possible to give folders unsupported names, and for these to show up as separate alongside the season and specials folders. Here is an example of mine (the second folder contains clean songs as well as special episodes): However, this is often not a stable situation... I suspect that if I tried rescanning this show my artifice would be undone. You can try it, but the official answer is that you can't do what you want. Paul
ScipiusMaximus 2 Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 (edited) Hi All, Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. Here is a bit more information: This is the structure of the "Extras": - Macross Plus (1994) -- Extras --- Macross Plus - Information High.mpeg --- Macross Plus - Voices - AMV - Japanese.avi -- Season 00 --- Macross Plus - 00x01 - Macross Plus - Movie Edition.mkv -- Season 01 --- Macross Plus - 01x01 - A.D. 2040 (Deep Space).mkv --- Macross Plus - 01x02 - Brain Waves.mkv Or, in case of some shows: - Macross Plus (1994) -- Season 00 --- Macross Plus - 00x01 - Macross Plus - Movie Edition.mkv --- Extras ---- Macross Plus - Information High.mpeg ---- Macross Plus - Voices - AMV - Japanese.avi -- Season 01 --- Macross Plus - 01x01 - A.D. 2040 (Deep Space).mkv --- Macross Plus - 01x02 - Brain Waves.mkv I did nothing special with the filenames, just gave them descriptive names. Tried the suggestion made by pwhodges. Renamed the "Extras" folder to "Misc", and that actually got the job done after refreshing the library. All the extra files are now showing as a "Misc" folder next to the "Specials" folders. All I wanted really. Edited November 25, 2024 by ScipiusMaximus
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Yes, I should have said - folders using the the different supported names all get merged, which is a rather limited form of "support" in my opinion. Paul
dibz8765 3 Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 I don't suppose the emby devs might consider an option to NOT use the folder name Extras as specials? Like the others here, that completely conflicts with Kodi's usage of the name. Also like the others, I imagine this is often - and I mean very often - going to come up with Anime with little extras like clean opening and ending sequences, artwork-videos, that sort of thing where you do not want them listed as episode files. I understand using "random folder names" instead of Extras, but like others have stated, some of us have very large libraries that we use with Kodi. To be frank, it seems odd to me in the first place that Specials is considered the same as Extras, but that might just be a bias on my part. 1

Hi, you can also use the method that @Happy2Playoutlined above.
