The image with emby version is 1.9 is my sons 2023 samaung crystal tv. The image with emby version 1.8 is my 2023 q80c tv. I mentioned this in another topic but got ignored. Is this being fixed?

It doesn't just go by year.  Samsung also tests each model group within a year separately.  In 2023 Samsung had at least 3 model groups (Premium, Standard, and Basic) and each one of those could be on a different release also.

Would need to know the crystal tvs model# to know which group it was in.

https://developer.samsung.com/smarttv/develop/specifications/tv-model-groups.html

However, Luke/SamES would have to be the ones to actually look up the status of each group in the Samsung dev portal.

I will get you the model number but my q80c is a higher end model with lower end version of emby???? I know i can use a USB stick but I dont want to do that every month. Maybe posible the updates can be done a bit faster. I understand this is not embys fault but its a PITA.

Has your Q80C had a recent firmware update?  What version is it?  Reading this article, Samsung are preparing for some 2023 models to update to Tizen 8 which will match the 2024 OS version.

https://www.sammobile.com/news/2023-samsung-tvs-get-new-firmware-before-big-tizen-8-0-upgrade/

In the last week, Samsung have started pushing releases to new model groups with a _OS80 name suffix, which I suspect are for 2023 models running Tizen 8.  For new model groups they typically do a full retest of the app which they start ahead of time.  Often this means that by the time they release the new model groups, we have already pushed a new app version.

It looks like these new _OS80 models have been tested on version 1.8.0 so at some stage we will need to do another update ether to bring these new model groups up to 1.9.0, or to bring all models up to another newer version.

I'm taking a guess here, but I suspect that is why you are still seeing 1.8.0 in the app store as your TV has or soon will update to Tizen 8

It doesn't matter which is the higher set.  If it fails while testing a Premium set then it gets sent back to the developer for that year/model group.  This is because the capabilities of sets are different.  Or, in case of what SamES mentioned certain groups could be frozen from updates.

Different years and model groups are also many times tested by different people.  There have been a few times when one tester failed an update for something another tester did not.

Anyway, updates are sent out by region, year, model group (maybe others) so there are several variables on why two different sets can have different app versions.

@FrostByteI can only chuckle when I read their promise of 7 years of updates and supports.  Sounds like the same promise that we got with EVO kits in Orsay models when we first started this saga over 12 years ago!  That was a short lived promise

Yes, it does sound ominously familiar.  They promise something and then a few years down the road decide that it's costing them too much money, so they stop.  Luckily a bunch of people got together and sued them for the whole SEK thing.

I ended up buying one for my 2013 Orsay after they got sued and was able to upgrade to Tizen, but I also lost DTSHD which was dropped in 2018 :)

I always tried, but could never get one for my 2012 model, then it eventually died 🤣

My q80c did receive the update for the new tizen not too long ago & the crystal wasn't upgraded yet. The model #s are qn65q80cafxza & un43cu7000fxza. I was always a samsung fan but between the stupid things they do here when they should be happy people are writing apps for tizen & messing up smartthings & taking forever to update software ..... they need to get their crap together ...... I forgot to add how i.also bought a samsung soundbar last December & it broke in January...... pardon my rant gentlemen...lol.

That sounds like a good question for @Luke to ask Samsung then.  If a 2023 TV is running the 2024 version of Tizen, how does that effect app updates?  Do you then start getting the version for 2024s, or are you stuck in some space void?

I know when I got the SEK for my old 2013 Samsung I then started getting the same Emby version that 2018 TVs got.

I'm with @SamESand would probably guess that is why you are behind.

What i don't understand is why this process with samsung cant be streamlined because if my tv is new, I should be receiving updates on a consistent basis. How does Netflix, paramount etc get updates with no delay?

Samsung has always been problematic with Emby. TCL and Hisense make quality Google TV's at a third less than Samsung or Sony and Google TV is just better than Tizen. If you want to make a switch hurry because Tarrifs on Chinese vs Korean imports will favor Korea over China pricewise and do nothing  but raise prices for US consumers.

There is a higher level of support which the big guys pay a premium for.  Because of this Netflix and others can also update TVs which are 5+ years old.  Just a higher level of support overall, at a cost of course

It looks like what they have done is create new model groups for 2023 models running Tizen 8.  This might only be transitional, but they might also leave this ongoing in case users don't update the firmware.  It will be a nightmare if every model group can support up to 7 different Tizen releases.

Anyway, 2023 and future models should all get Emby app versions at the same time moving forward, so you won't notice the difference. They haven't opened up the option for us to submit updates to the newer model groups yet, but as we submitted 1.9.0 while they were still testing 1.8.0 on your model, that is why it is currently behind. In the future, they should all be updated together.

When they open the option for us to submit to this new model group, then we can submit an update.

Samsung have generally been OK recently, but there is a lot of work for us to test and release models as well as for Samsung.  Just for 2023 models, there are currently 11 model groups and that doesn't include the new groups that they've just added to support Tizen 8 on these models.  There are similar numbers of all the other model years as well.

There is not actually a lot of change between 1.8.0 and 1.9.0 and you wouldn't currently benefit from more regular updates.  The USB Beta updates monthly as it has a built-in expiry by Samsung that forces us to update it monthly, often there may not be any changes in the app over that time.  When there have been more beneficial changes, then we do push store updates more often.

Oh, of course they would do that.  They want to make sure people don't get more than 5 years of support for free 🙄
