newyorker 11 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Allow one-digit decimal season numbers (e.g., season 1.2) to be used between integer seasons. This feature is particularly useful for anime, as it can effectively resolve issues like the one mentioned in this post: Quote A common need for anime is to place OVAs and special movies between seasons. In the example above, the final solution was to remove all season numbers and use the "Sort Title" field for custom ordering. However, this approach sacrifices the ability to automatically jump to the next video in the correct sequence. By supporting decimal season numbers, we can insert additional content between seasons while maintaining the automatic progression to the next video in the proper order. When fetching metadata from providers, decimal seasons can be ignored, and metadata can be retrieved for integer seasons only. Since decimal seasona are intended for custom organization, users can manually edit the metadata as needed. In summary, allowing decimal season numbers does not conflict with any existing features and adds significant flexibility for custom ordering.

These items are presumably in the Specials folder, and therefore have additional fields in the metadata which specify what season/episode the special precedes. These are commonly filled in by the metadata providers, but can be specified manually by editing the metadata if necessary. Episodes may be placed after the end of a season by using a higher episode number than is present. It used to be possible to specify whether this placement would be ignored or honoured, but now it cannot be turned off, except by editing the metadata to remove this information. Paul

Paul I'm aware of this feature. But it will put the movie inside a season. What I want is a individual card between seasons. Take the following image as example, Memory Snow and Frozen Bonds have its own card, and they don't belong to any season. Can you achive this effect using Specials? Decimal season can esaily achive this. Just make them Season 1.1 and Season 1.2.
newyorker 11 Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 In addition, even if you put them in the Specials folder, you'll still need to manually edit the metadata because TMDB treats them as Movie. If you want them to appear within the TV show series, you'll end up editing the metadata anyway.
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 I use TVDB for series rather than TMDB, and on TVDB Memory Snow and Frozen Bonds are also recognised as specials (s00e26 and s00e28) of the series; in general in TVDB films associated with series are available both ways (even in cases in which they arguably should not be, like the Evangelion Rebuild films being included as specials for the original series). However, I take the point about showing them as intermediate pseudo-seasons. Of course, if you use the option to flatten the seasons into one single sequence, they will appear naturally at the correct point. I prefer season folders though, as I guess you do too. Paul
newyorker 11 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 Hi @Luke, could you move this post to the Feature Request section for me? Thanks!
