Video delay when using Bluetooth headphones

When I play a show or movie with Bluetooth headphones connected the audio begins playing immediately but the video pauses for a couple seconds before playing. 
 

this results in the audio being slightly ahead of video. 
 

if I disconnect the headphones, audio and video are in sync, I.e. video starts immediately with no delay, as does audio. 
 

This does not impact subtitles. The subtitles stay in-sync with the audio.

Well as soon as I go to record my screen it starts working properly. There is now no delay when using Bluetooth headphones…

not sure what happened last night when I experienced the issue!
