audiom3 11 Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) How does one restore from a backup once a reinstallation of the OS has occurred? Obviously, with Scale vs Core, the location of the app files are different and as soon as I change the mount directory, all of my movies and shows are wiped out - even though they are identical to what emby shows. Thanks. Edited November 9, 2024 by audiom3
Luke 42077 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 @audiom3do you still have your backup files from the previous OS installation? What created the backup? Quote as soon as I change the mount directory, all of my movies and shows are wiped out Can you please show us exactly what you are doing and exactly what is happening? Thanks !
audiom3 11 Posted November 12, 2024 Author Posted November 12, 2024 (edited) Hi Luke, I upgraded from Core to Scale fairly recently. But I decided last week, that I wanted to upgrade my CPU and MB due to more PCIe lanes for my GPU, 10G NIC, SAS Expander and HBA card. When I tried to boot with my SSD, the MSI Bios would not allow it because (I had a friend help with this initially and he set it up in) Legacy bios mode So I had to completely rebuild TrueNAS Scale and ultimately, emby. I just rolled up my sleeves and rebuilt it over the weekend. So it's back to the way it was, flaws and all. Subtitles seem to be the common theme for poor or zero playback. I don't know how I could have this kind of trouble still as my daughter (remote playback) was watching a low bitrate 1080p movie and emby would go to a black screen every 20-30 mins. She'd have to back out of emby, restart until it happened again. My PC, GPU, RAM, everything, is way overkill at this point and now I realize, I most likely didn't need to upgrade it. Hell, and I am running dual 10G LACP on an Intel X520 just to be damn sure I never run out of headroom. My ISP is 10G fiber too... So I am positive it's not the delivery of those bits, or her 1G fiber internet connection. Another issue for you Luke, is the new movie Twisters (note it's plural) in 4k. I am pretty sure it is (un!)seamless branching affecting it, but that sucker freezes about 2 minutes in, on almost every device except the Nvidia ShieldTV Pro. Fire sticks, Fire Cube (3rd Gen) LG C9, TCL Roku TVs (3 different ones)... Just trying to accept emby with all of it's warts included, I guess. I am not going to bother with my Plex server as I am burned out from building, rebuilding servers over the past several months. Edited November 12, 2024 by audiom3

Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
audiom3 11 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 My buddy just tried it again after I upgraded my MB, CPU and entire array to WD Red Pro 24 TB drives. His words... "Laggy and freezing". Logs attached. embyserver.txt
audiom3 11 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 Now server just crashed. Logs attached. embyserver (1).txt

audiom3 11 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 Kicked him out and my local playback went black screen and popped up the box "Mark as watched?". I was maybe halfway through the episode.
Luke 42077 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 So what exactly crashed? The server, or the app?
audiom3 11 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 (edited) I assume that's a question best answered for you and the devs? How could I even know exactly what crashed? I do know that I have never witnessed this crash before. As I said, it booted him back to his FTV Cube apps' screen and my local stream went black and a pop up appeared as I said above. Both of our apps crashed at the exact same time (I was using my ShieldTV Pro locally, he was on his 3rd Gen FTV Cube). I assumed everything that you would need, would be in the logs that I posted. Luke 42077 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Are you still able to access the server using the web app when this happens?
audiom3 11 Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 @LukeI just happened to be on my phone app's server dashboard when both instances disappeared. I looked up to see my instance had a black screen and then I got a text from my friend. So a lot going on at that time, so not sure what happened after that as far as the web page/server page goes. I do not recall being forcefully booted from the app on my ShieldTV. I simply marked the rest of the show as watched and then honestly, can't remember what happened. I may very well have been booted after selecting yes... I was not thinking much of it at the time to be honest. Troubles with Emby are not a new thing for me. I often wonder why I keep banging my head against the wall but I do want my and my users' privacy via encryption. However, with both instances crashing at the exact same time, I suspect the server would be to blame? I have no way to tell for certain. The bigger issue is why my users keep freezing or having crazy judder on almost everything 4k and many at 1080p also. It seems unrelated to bitrate as my friend can play Baby Driver (not perfectly but acceptable) and then fail miserably at Twisters, which probably has 25% less bitrate. I've had other dial down their bitrate to ensure my GPU is transcoding and they still get the spinning wheel of doom at times. What I have found is if they see the green (or whatever color I set it at) spinning circle, it is the emby server. If their playback pauses briefly and resumes without the circle, it is their internet, not my server. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

They need the ffmpeg logs. Those will show what’s happening during a stream

Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
audiom3 11 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) Thanks @LukeMy daughter's Cube had Emby for Amazon or whatever the name was. I un-installed it and installed the "Emby" app. For the Shield, I want to be super clear. I should have the Emby for Android installed and not Emby for Android TV, correct? audiom3 11 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) @LukeI'll monitor the Fire Cube apps. But both apps are buggy as heck on the Shield. For Android TV... When I enable auto skip intros, a lot of times the video starts skipping/pausing after it skips the intro until I hit the back (rewind) button. Sometimes it still continues, so I have to hit it again to get the audio and video to sync. And even if I manually click the skip intro button, it happens. And then if I choose to disable both and try to FF the show, it will do the same thing. There is no way around this bug. For non-TV Android on the Shield. There is no way to exit the movie or show. Even though I have the back button performs a STOP, it doesn't do anything except bring up a blank grey banner on the left side of the screen. I just had to hold the back button to get out, the audio for the episode continued and a double tap of the circle button did nothing. So I had to go into apps and force close Emby. This is definately worse for me than the Android TV app that I've been using. Edited November 29, 2024 by audiom3
audiom3 11 Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) This can easily be replicated by anyone by tapping the 'FF' button. If it works the first time and video plays as it should, just hit it again and you'll see the issue I'm talking about. This has been a bug since I signed up for Emby months ago. 20241129_132756.mp4 Edited November 29, 2024 by audiom3
audiom3 11 Posted November 30, 2024 Author Posted November 30, 2024 Was at my girlfriend's house trying to play something. Neither app worked on her current Gen FireTV Stick. Lots of issues with playback in the 4:05 - 4:20 mark in the attached log. I kept lowering bitrate all the way down to 15mbps. She has a 750 mbps plan. At the 4:08 mark, her instance was forcefully closed (black screen) and we were booted to the FireTV landing page (home screen). embyserver-63868495128.txt
audiom3 11 Posted December 4, 2024 Author Posted December 4, 2024 @Lukesee anything that I might be doing wrong?
audiom3 11 Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 @Lukeanything? I took the time to post the logs at your request. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
audiom3 11 Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 Not like you guys will read this or comment @Lukebut this complete Emby failure was on my own 10G network and even dumbed the transcode all the way down to 10mbps. This is my spare TV on a Roku TV Ultra via wifi. ffmpeg-transcode-a04e5931-0b44-4655-8d73-12dd0d2bda53_1.txt embyserver.txt

audiom3 11 Posted January 2, 2025 Author Posted January 2, 2025 I started off with no HW transcoding and so I picked up a new 3060 in an effort to improve things. But I will compare if NO HW > CPU Transcoding. I got my main setup back in order, so I don't use the spare very often. Might be a few...
audiom3 11 Posted January 7, 2025 Author Posted January 7, 2025 I turned off HW acceleration and my friend couldn't even get past the 20th Century Fox intro... So far worse than with HW transcoding/acceleration enabled.
