multiple Emby music issues

Hello,

I'm noticing a few issues/bugs with Emby music on Android. I've had these for months and am able to reproduce them with the following versions still:

Emby server version: 4.8.10.0

Android client version: 3.4.20

First the simplest but also worst: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3858

Workaround:

  1. Click on music library
  2. Click on songs from the top bar
  3. Then click shuffle
  4. Playback will run for a few seconds and then crash the app

Second: Shuffling albums shuffles artists instead. Reproducable when using Emby web client as well.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Emby, navigate to Music library
  2. Select Albums from the top bar
  3. Press the shuffle icon below
  4. The playlist created seems to be shuffled artists. If you have any artists with multiple albums in your library they'll be scrambled together. Not album A first, then album B as expected when shuffling albums, instead it's ABABABABA, when artist X has two albums.

If any logs or screenshots are needed just let me know.

Can reproduce. On a purely abstract 'technical' level i guess your right/i agree... the expectation would be to shuffle the objects in view..not the members of the objects in view.

The Web Client at least already supports shuffling the queue so shuffling the members after the fact  is already possible.....lending weight to your suggestion that in the first instance  the objects in view should be shuffled not the members.

Thanks for trying to reproduce!

I'm guessing you mean you're running the latest Emby server beta 4.9.0.31 instead of 4.8.31.0 as you wrote?

Maybe it's worth updating to the beta for me as well then, despite it at times being unstable and it being impossible to revert to stable. Thanks for the info!

~7500 songs in my music Library, using Emby Android on Google Pixel 8 Pro.

my mistake yes i meant 4.9.0.31..worth a try on the beta, but perhaps morely simply in first place  a full storage / cache clear on the app?

My guess would be by the time the client is playing a song, i dont think the server is much involved...so perhaps less likely to be affected by server version (crashing mid song)...my guess would be more of a client issue. but then you would expect to see the issue in general and not just shuffling the full library...so who knows 🙂.

Oooh good idea thank you!

Seems like the issue is fixed by navigating to the Android app info -> Storage & cache -> Clear cache

Whether this fix is temporary or not we'll see. Still no clue what caused this issue in the first place

HI, yes that is strange. We'll use this to try and reproduce. Thanks !

@LukeIt seems like the fix was only temporary.

I'm able to make the Emby app, and Bluetooth too for some reason, crash by clicking shuffle all on my music library.

What happened this time:

  1. On android long press music library
  2. Select Shuffle all
  3. takes about 15 seconds for playback to start
  4. Music plays for 2-5 seconds
  5. Emby app crashes (sometimes?!)
  6. Bluetooth crashes (?!) and my bluetooth headset loses connection for a few seconds
  7. Playback can be resumed afterwards if Emby app hasn't crashed

I've done this six times in a row now. Bluetooth crashing every time while headset is connected. Emby crashing almost every time, but I can't see a clear pattern. Tried without bluetooth headset connected as well, which still made the Emby app crash etc.

If any logs could be of use, let me know.

I'm using Sony WH-1000XM4.

The issue seems unrelated to the headset though as I'm able to reproduce Emby crashing with bluetooth disabled on my phone too. The bluetooth crash seems like a bonus, like confetti at a party.

Hi Luke, any updates? I recently bought a home server to stream my music collection to my phone so I can listen while on the go.

The android app works great on my local network at home, but crashes immediately when connected to the data network (AT&T), only after a few seconds of play. Whether I hit play or shuffle the same thing happens. I'd love to listen my uninterrupted music while I'm driving around all day at work, but after a couple of weeks frustration, I am losing hope.

All of the files (22,000+ songs) is in a single folder on the server with all bands/artists organized in subfolders.

Galaxy S21 ultra

Terramaster F4-212

Emby mobile app ver3.4.74 (recently downgraded from the app store version)

Most recent version of the Emby server app from the terramaster site.

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Never mind I gave up with the constant crashing. I went to Symfonium and it works great. The Emby mobile app is total dogsh**.

Cheers.

I've been using Symfonium for a few months now, can confirm it's a great alternative & would highly recommend.

For sure, I'm really enjoying my music again. It's been two days of listening eight hours straight at work and not a single crash, gaps, lag, endless repeating the same song. Couldn't get a decent stream with a mobile browser either.

I poopoo'd the mobile app, however the Emby app installed on my nas runs flawlessly.

Anyway, have a good one and thanks for the reply.
