tomcorvus 5 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Hello to the community, Since Synology update where VideoStation extension is not available anymore, I would like to migrate to Emby which seems better than the others. I have configured basicaly to get the lists of TV shows, music and movies from my Synology server and all medias are synchronized. It is very cool btw. But I try to play these medias on my TV passing by TV box from my Internet service provider but all medias are stuck on 00:00 without playing. I tried to go forward to see if medias get playing but I saw that, on a movie for example, the movie is played backwards. It jumps 3-4 minutes backwards like I'm fast rewinding the movie with my remote. Hard to me to say which codecs are on this TV box but everything worked fine with VideoStation. I tried to play medias on my Android smartphone with Emby Android app, and play them directly on my TV without using the TV box and it works fine. The problem is that my TV is an old one so I have not enough codecs to play all format. If a french read this, my TV box is a Orange UHD 4K. French Internet service provider. Beyond my TV box, maybe someone had a similar problem with another device. Or maybe the Emby premium will give me more codecs compatible with my TV box. Please tell me if you need more information and how I get send you logs. Thank you for your help and your work. Emby version 4.8.8.0-724080800 Synology 1522+ on DSM 7.2.2-72806 Tom
Carlo 4560 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Hi. Is this the device you have? https://boutique.orange.fr/informations/decodeur-tv-uhd/ That page has both 4K UHD TV Decoder and the new TV Decoder 6. The pics they have look like some form of Android. On that box, see if you can install addition apps or if they have an App Store. If so, search for Emby
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 Hello Carlo, Yes, this is the left one. For now, there is no Apps store, just few pre-installed apps like YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video therefore impossible to install Emby on it.
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 10, 2024 Author Posted November 10, 2024 It is not the same service and it seems to be a service in another country. I can't install an application of TV box. Video Station no longer exists but AudioStation yes. This allows me to play my music on my TV box using AudioStation and it's working but not with Emby. (I would like to try Plex to see if I have the same problem, but Plex doesn't detect neither my TV nor my TV box... but I have to configure something (?) DLNA is nevertheless activated.) Do you think it's a problem with Emby codecs that are not fully compatible with my TV box? Premium Emby can be able me to advanced configure and try anothers codecs? Thanks
Carlo 4560 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Got ya. In case you haven't thought about it, a great solution for $50ish would be adding a new device to a different HDMI port on the TV giving your system some new "brains" and functionality that supports all the latest functionality. It's sometimes the easiest and best way to fix issues that are propriety or related to specific hardware. Not to mention often runs much faster and has far more apps available, greatly expanding your TV's functionality and use. No but it could be the other way around. Emby uses what you could call reference codecs when it transcodes. But to be clear if media is direct playing and not being transcoded then it would have nothing to do with Emby at all but how the media was encoded and what codecs were used. Try playing your media again for a couple minutes then quit playback, wait a minute then go to the logs menu on the Emby Server dashboard. Grab the latest server log file and any logs at the top starting with ffmpeg if they roughly match the time of your test. Upload the logs here and we can take a look at them to get a better idea what might be happening. Carlo
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 I tried to install Emby on my TV to get all my libraries on it and navigate like on the Android app but it is very slow. It is not usable unless I want to pull my hair out. For the second part of your answer, I played a movie on my TV box, moved forward, and waited a minute, but no ffmpeg log was created. To be sure that the logs are created correctly, I played another movie directly on TV this time and a ffmpeg log was created but as I said, movie plays well on my TV so it is not representative of my problem. But you can find embyserver log file where you will see I play the movie on my TV box around 2024-11-11 18:34:35.344 (line 25501) The movie called Les Minions (2015).mkv Hope this can give some insight into my problem. Thank you. embyserver.zip
Carlo 4560 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Did you actually install an Emby App on the TV? Viewing your log I'm not seeing the Samsung TV connecting to your Emby Server using an App. Instead, what I'm seeing is an Android device SM-G981U1 requesting all the info for Les Minions (2015) then casting (playing to) your Samsung LED58 for this movie. The Android device is asking the Samsung TV to play Lex Minions (2015).mkv using the Emby DLNA server. DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is a set of guidelines and standards that enables devices like TVs, computers, smartphones, and media players to share and stream multimedia content (such as videos, music, and photos) over a home network. It's designed to allows easy connectivity and interoperability between various multimedia devices and players. I searched the Certified DLNA Device Database for your TV but there was no listing. I then found a PDF manual for your TV, but a search for DLNA isn't present. There was a full page a certified/licensed stuff, but DLNA wasn't there while Dolby Digital 5.1 and the different codec it supports are there. Your TV is a 2014 model. Based on the year of your TV if certified would have likely been DLNA version 1.5 which was: To meet the standard for DLNA the device or player must support: Video: MPEG-2 TS (.mpg, .m2t, .mpe, .mpeg), AVC (MPEG-4 part 10), MPEG-4 Visual (MPEG-4 part 2), MP4 Audio: AAC (.m4a, .mp4, .3gp), Linear PCM (.wav), MP3 (.mp3), WMA Images: JPEG, PNG Often devices will support more than the "standard" and your TV from the manual I found says it support MKV however it's possible MKV is only supported on thumb/HDD drives plugged into USB but I don't think that's the case. The good news is that Emby is very flexible and allows creating custom DLNA profiles and has a Samsung profile we could start with and just modify a bit for your TV. We just need to figure out the exact issue it has. What I couldn't figure out from the server log is the make up (tracks) contained in Les Minions (2015).mkv. Can you open that movie (not playit) and go to the detail page for it. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page. You should see the metadata for all tracks for this movie. Copy/paste it back here so we get a better idea what specific codecs are being used. Thanks, Carlo 2024-11-11 07:24:55.638 Info DLNA: DLNA Session created for [TV]Samsung LED58 - UE58J5200. Description url: http://192.168.1.20:7676/smp_11_ Spoiler Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) supports a variety of file types, including: Audio: AAC (.m4a, .mp4, .3gp), Linear PCM (.wav), MP3 (.mp3), WMA Video: MPEG-2 TS (.mpg, .m2t, .mpe, .mpeg), AVC (MPEG-4 part 10), MPEG-4 Visual (MPEG-4 part 2), MP4 Images: JPEG, PNG
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 I have installed the Emby application on my TV after sending you logs. That's why you don't see log about it. My objective is not to launch films directly on my TV, but on my TV box because it has more codecs, can play more formats, and playback is faster and smoother. You can find it in log at Décodeur TV UHD line 6610 (2024-11-11 11:25:06.518). I tried to play Alice au pays des merveilles. But when I play movie on my TV box, not ffmeg log is created. I tried to go forward and as always the movie plays backward automatically.
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 For now, I found a solution to bypass my problem. When I play a movie, I pause the movie and I play it again with my remote, and then, the movie plays normally. But the first time, I play it, my TV box seems to play it backwards. despite this, no log is created to get trace of what's happen. It's annoying when I watch a TV show with multiple episode if I need to pause and unpause at the beginning. Not really understand what's happening, especially since VideoStation also used DLNA and I had no problems. Not want to say anything stupid, does DLNA have multiple versions and could the DLNA version be a clue to the problem? Since it is the DLNA which orders the device to perform actions.
Carlo 4560 Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I found the Décodeur TV UHD device in the server log. It didn't find a matching an existing matching profile, so it loaded a default protocol on the fly. On the server DLNA menu, Profiles Tab there is a list of common profiles. One of the profiles can be copied/edited to create a new custom profile that can be adjusted to control what can be direct played, what will be transcoded etc. Open Alice au pays des merveille in Emby and go to the detail page of the movie. Scroll to the bottom where it shows the file specs. Copy/paste that info here.

Carlo 4560 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Thanks, You should be able to fix your issue by creating a custom DLNA profile in Emby. DLNA menu Follow this guide to get your custom profile setup. At the top of the profile once created you will see Direct Play & Transcoding at the top. Configure Transcoding with a single entry each for audio, video, photo. Thew video profile is what gets used for movie and shows. On the Direct Play section, you can have multiple sections set up. If the media you are playing through DLNA matches one of these the media will not be transcoded since it's defined a direct play. Anything not matching the configuration enter in one of these will get transcoded.
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Sorry I did'nt see Carlo's answer. I try this today. Thanks. 1
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 Hello, I followed instructions but nothing changes. The custom profile seems to be successfully loaded but the movie is stuck at the beginning and I need to pause and play the movie with my remote to get it to play. For a film, this can be done, but for a series where the episodes last 3-4 minutes, it is more restrictive or I want to listen an music album, I have to pause and play on each track. 2024-11-19 08:05:37.176 Debug DLNA: Found matching device profile: Décodeur TV UHD embyserver (1).txt
tomcorvus 5 Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Well, I tried with Jellyfin, I have the same problem. Devices are detected with DLNA but I need to pause unpause to see the movie/music plays. Very annoying. And with Plex, no devices are detected, so it's worse... I am not an expert to configure settings on this kind of module but I regret the Synology decision to abandon DSVideo. No configuration, just add your libraries and it works like a charm.
Carlo 4560 Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 @Lukeor @softworkzCan you take a look at the server log posted above If you search for the Debug DLNA line above (line 254) and look down a bit you'll see some errors starting at line 371 for unknown mimeType Is this a faulty DLNA profile? Luke 42077 Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Does this happen with both video and audio files, or just audio?
tomcorvus 5 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 It happens on both. But for audio files, it is a little bit different. In logs, I saw that the album I want to play appears but the media player on the TV does not launch. For videos, the media player launches, but it is blocked at the beginning. If I go forward, the media player rewind the movie. That's why the movie is blocked to 00:00 if the media player rewind it. And to by pass this problem, I need to pause/unpause with my remote. embyserver.txt 1
Carlo 4560 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Don't know if you picked up on it Luke, but this is using DLNA to "cast" for the playback. I've tried replicating this with 5 or 6 DNLA devices and can't reproduce it.
tomcorvus 5 Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 I can't really understand why I'm having this problem. The progress shows from 00:00 to 00:00 even though the movie is 2 hours long. When I pause/unpause, progress bar now displays 00:00:12 to 02:03:19 for example. The problem doesn't appear if I play another movie or music before the medias end.
Luke 42077 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Does it have a web browser? can you try the web app on it?
tomcorvus 5 Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 No, there is no browser on it and no way to install the Android app or something on it. Not very helpful, I know. 1
