RLanger7228 73 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 I have a large number of movie playlists (like Age 6-12, Film Noir, Art films, etc). I was editing the metadata of the playlists themselves to include descriptions. I accidentally deleted the “stock” image (formed of a group of 4 posters from some of the movies in the playlist). When I tried to add a new image (on my iPad), I got to the screen where images would be added for poster, logo, banner, etc, but there were no links to search for or add new images. Clicking on each box did not allow me to add an image either. I went to the Emby client on my iPhone, and it also showed the image deleted & would not allow adding a new one. I was sort of hoping that the image would re-generate automatically, since it was automatically generated in the first place. It seems odd that the image management screen pops up, but has no apparent effective functionality (and no icons). When I edit a movie, it does offer the option to search for a new image. I deleted the stock image because the Playlist image included a movie I accidentally added to the wrong playlist. I removed it from the playlist immediately, but the image remained among the 4 displayed as the Poster for the playlist. it also might be a useful feature to be able to “shuffle” which movies are chosen for the playlist image.
RLanger7228 73 Posted November 7, 2024 Author Posted November 7, 2024 FOLLOW-UP: By the time I got home today, the Playlist image had reverted to the 4 poster image typical of playlists, by itself without my intervention, and no longer included the movie I had removed from the playlist. I still think it would be nice to be able to add custom images if desired, especially since the choice to edit images & the dialogue box for it is already in place.
Luke 42078 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Hi, you can add custom images using edit images.
RLanger7228 73 Posted November 9, 2024 Author Posted November 9, 2024 I tried that. Although that works on my laptop just fine, on my mobile devices (iPhone & iPad), I can only get to the Edit Images dialogue section, but can't add any images. As you can see in the screenshot from my iPhone, there are no icons to select the method to import the images. The only icon available is the trashcan, which would delete the "stock" image (my original mistake). Touching all over the other boxes or touch & holding does not generate any actions. That's why I submitted this as a feature request.
RLanger7228 73 Posted November 9, 2024 Author Posted November 9, 2024 When I use the browser on my laptop it works fine. When I try from my iPhone or iPad (like when I am away from hone), I can't seem to reach my server through the browser. It automatically defaults to the Emby client app, which is where I am having the problem.
Neminem 1519 Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Are you using http or https ? Most browsers today defaults to https.
RLanger7228 73 Posted November 10, 2024 Author Posted November 10, 2024 Good question. On my laptop (checking the browser address window), it seems that it is neither, since it is a local connection through the IP address of the NAS on the same physical network. However, I am able to add images to playlists on my laptop, so that doesn't really mater in this instance. The issue is only on my mobile devices (iPhone & iPad). I am not able to reach my Emby server remotely through a browser. I MUST use the Emby client app on these devices. Since I can't see the address they are using, I don't know whether it is HTTP or HTTPS, but I suspect that is not the issue.
Luke 42078 Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 @RLanger7228the iOS app hasn't implemented file uploading yet, so that's why you don't see the menu option there. We can look at that, but in the meantime, you can do it using the Emby web app. Quote I am not able to reach my Emby server remotely through a browser. What exactly happens when you try?
RLanger7228 73 Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 When I try to go to the emby website on my iPhone/iPad browser(s), it defaults to sending me to the Emby Client App. Within the Emby Client App, when I go to edit images, I only see an icon for the trashcan option (SS 1). When I touch & hold the box, I now see an option to enter an image URL (SS 2). Touching & holding the other boxes also now shows the "enter an image URL" option. However, when I posted this issue back on November 9th in this thread, this action did not give me the same result. I can't explain why. I assume that this functionality was not simply added in the last month. The only thing I can think of is that I have noticed that touch screen functionality has been intermittently unreliable on my iPhone 15 Pro Max running IOS 17.2.2 (21H221) [I am reluctant to upgrade to 18.2 until the bugs have been worked out. I have seen articles that stated some people have reported losing data during the upgrade]. Since the file upload feature has not yet been implemented, then it would be a feature request. The ability to enter an image from a URL is a satisfactory resolution for now. I remain mystified as to why it is working now but not then. I try to test & re-test a problem before posting them to the forum. Posting a problem that does not really exist is both embarrassing & diminishes my credibility. 1 hour ago, Luke said: We can look at that, but in the meantime, you can do it using the Emby web app. I referred to the app as Emby Client. but you mentioned Emby Web App. Is there a different web app form the client app, or are they the same? 1
Luke 42078 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 by web app I mean just using the browser, as you have been. I'm not sure why it's forcing you to use the app. The two are linked, so the browser will encourage you to switch to the app, but it shouldn't be required.
MrAudio 22 Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 I've found that, while you can upload an image from a URL (as shown above), you don't get the "upload from a file" option if you already have an image for that item. To upload a file, you must first delete the existing image, and then the Delete option will become the "Upload New file" option (the icon is a plus symbol in a circle). 1 1

It should always be there.
