hamah 7 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Rather than develop an Emby app for the Q3 why not have Emby available as a streaming service through the excellent Spatial TV app? That app already supports many streaming services such as Apple TV+ and Plex. Notably absent is Emby (and Netflix). Perhaps it's something that would be faster to market and meet at least some user needs? In the meantime the workaround is to use the apps built-in browser to reach my Emby server.
Pelon 203 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 There are at least 3 ways to connect to an Emby server on the Quest: Use the browser Sideload the Android apk Use the Skybox VR player The first 2 are more of the traditional Emby, with all of the Emby features. The downside to this methods, is that you can use an environment (like a movie theater), or play 3D movies The Skybox option uses DLNA, and play 3D movies and uses a theater like environment, but you don't get the movies/tv descriptions.

I wasn't aware of sideloading the Android APK. Have you tried that and how well did it work? Any other downsides? (I don't really care about environments or 3D) I'll take another look at Skybox but as far as DLNA servers go the last time I tried it it was the worst I'd ever used. So far the browser looks like the best Quest option and is how I watch usually watch Emby on my desktop. Using a browser on a Quest is still a bit clunky though. I will say that the support of Plex on Spatial TV seems as good as the actual Plex app itself. I just figured it seems like a great app for watching a variety of streaming services and if it had native Emby built in it would be perfect for my needs.... and who knows, maybe that's easier than developing a full Quest app. I figured it was worth a mention here anyway. Pelon 203 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Side loading ones you get the trick, is easy. Now Android APKs are flat, so if your expectation is that you are running an APK, you should be fine.
popy 71 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hey guys, a question regarding Emby on Meta Quest 3. Yes, it runs (Emby for Android and the Android TV Variant) after sideloading. I want to use it to play 3D SBS titles. Added the " - .3d.hsbs." in the file name and also Emby is showing the seconde video track in the webview on an windows PC. Also i can select it and it shows the SBS video. On the quest i can get it to play, but not in 3D, it also shows the two video streams SBS (left and right video stream at the same time). Also tried to set the 3D format in the metadata of the movie, but that did not change anything. The only thing is to set "play in external player", than it opens 4XVR with the emby url and it works. Should this work in emby itself with the emby built in "ExoPlayer"? P.S.: Also posted here:

popy 71 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 @Lukeyes, that's what i am asking Does 3D playback should work with the internal player on the meta quest 3 with the sideloaded android or tv app?

Hi, I'm not sure, although if you could try and report your experience, that would be great. Thanks.
popy 71 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 3D Does'nt work, 2D works quite well. In the end i have used Skybox VR with my SMB share, which works great for 3D movies. 1
