Supported TV's list for Emby and whether in native App Store or not

Ok here is an area I think Emby team should concentrate on.

SCENARIO:

  • Family have asked me to recommend a UK 2024 model budget TV that has all usual UK Catch Up TV apps + Apple TV App + Emby (standard Android app if Android/Google TV based device).
  • Emby's Apple TV app is such a let down, hence need for integrated Smart TV with Emby app. Not interested in extra boxes or USB dongles. Neat and integrated.
  • Side loading Emby is NOT an option - Family members are non technical and would expect to use an app store.
  • ROKU or FireOS middleware on new TV not desired as interface not liked and clunky, and Emby app on ROKU is also not liked.

ISSUES:

TCL c655 55" - A 2024 model, but unbelievably running Android 11 on UK models but Android 12 on EU models!!!. This means no Frame rate match and lumpy motion on 24p content in a PAL 50 hertz region for any apps playing 23.976/24p/50p. Android TV itself runs at 60hz for its GUI. TCL has Dolby Vision and Atmos support and even an Onkyo sound system built in.

Only Android 12 has frame rate match and so far only Netflix has just started making use of the API (API 30) - unknown IF Emby USE THIS API. Most apps like Amazon Prime, Disney, Paramount simply ignore this API and motion will drop frames/judder as a result. Developers have to "opt-in" to use the frame rate match API which means them knowing about it and changing their apps to use it.

SONY: Issues as TCL above, as they use Android TV on some models or Google TV on others, and all have the same frame rate match issue when viewing video in apps (except Netflix app on Android 12).

HISENSE: - TVs running Fire OS or ROKU are not desired and most of their TVs have VIDAA App Store. Whilst it has most of the expected UK apps, Emby is not in the Hisense VIDAA App store. Unknown if frame rate matching is an issue on this platform. This manufacturer also has 'FREELY' on a number of models which will eventually replace DVB-T/T2 and DVBS2 broadcasts with IP based and they support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on models looked at. Plex has a dedicated app launch remote control button on some models!

LG - we know this works mostly fine, BUT most models except high end don't have Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support or the variety of apps  on Android. Then there is a question over whether 2024 models have Emby in LG's app store now, and whether Emby DTS support is re-enabled again as 2024 models support it again.

SHARP - These 2024 models have Dolby support and Freely on models looked at, and powered by "Tivo". Couldn't find any information on their app store and whether Emby is supported. Supports most other UK apps. No idea what their app store is.

Appreciate it's a minefield how manufacturers have created their products, but would be great if Emby had a proper up to date WIKI on supported models and whether in an app store and whether 24p playback would be smooth as expected (due to emby frame matching output) and whether DTS is supported (LG issue mainly). Side loading apps is OK for technical people but not normal users (majority).
