Straximus 3 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I have four MKVs that will not display the English subtitle track. Looking at the files in MKVToolNix shows the English sub track is marked Default and Forced. There are three other subtitle tracks that are not marked default OR forced. When the English track is selected, it displays one of the other sub tracks. The English subs display fine when played in the browser, or in VLC. Any thoughts?
Solution pwhodges 2012 Posted November 3, 2024 Solution Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) The Roku gets very confused when there is more than one flag on a track, I think. I would remove the forced flag as a first step in testing this. You can change the flag in an mkv using either MKVToolNix, or quicker (no rewriting the file) using Jmkvpropedit. Alternatively, if you force transcoding by lowering the client quality (which you may not want to do, of course) then subtitles get burnt in at the server, which should get this right. ebr 16169 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Yes, the Roku has a problem with a sub track marked both default and forced but, also, the Roku appears to interpret the forced flag literally - meaning it will force that sub track no matter what. So I would try removing that.
Straximus 3 Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 Yep. Removing the forced flag worked. And thanks for letting me know about Jmkvpropedit. 1
