ChrisWade 2 Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) Hi all, I'm running Emby on a Dell 3070 Micro (i5-8500T, 16GB RAM, 512GB M.2 NVMe, running Widows 11 Pro) with all my movies and shows on a Seagate Seagate Expansion Plus 8TB connected via USB into a USB 3.1 port on my little PC. It was fine for the first 2 weeks but all of the sudden (I can't think of what might have triggered it), when I'm away from home and watching a movie/show through the Emby app on my Samsung Galaxy S24, videos take 30-60 seconds to load. Once loaded, there's no buffering, I can fast forward or rewind with no lag. If I come out of the video and press "resume" straight away, I have to wait 30-60 seconds for the video to load again. It works perfectly fine on my work laptop in Chrome browser, videos take 1-2 seconds to load. I already cleared cache/data and uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone. No difference. I get close to 1Gbps downloads at work and 300-400Mbps downloads at the gym (the only two places I use remote play). All I did was I installed Emby and used the Remote (WAN) access IP to connect. No reverse proxy, port forwarding etc as I'm not that comfortable with any of it. I do run tailscale on the server so I can manage it remotely. I did notice that 8096 was opened automatically on my ISP issued home router's firewall and I guess that's a good thing. I've attached a recent log, after playing a video and stopping it after a few seconds. Any suggestions please? embyserver.txt Edited October 30, 2024 by ChrisWade typo
ChrisWade 2 Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 To add: I just tested and if I play content in the Chrome browser on the same phone, it loads in a couple of seconds. It's just the app that's slow. Weird.
Carlo 4561 Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Hi, Are you sure it's not the drives, bay, or USB interface being powered down and taking a while to start up? When testing in Chrome, did you first try this in the app which might have already spun thing up?
Luke 42079 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 HI, was there an ffmpeg log? Please attach that as well. Thanks.

Neither the drive, bay nor the USB interface have even fallen asleep as far as I can tell. I've got 6 other remote users who use it on smart TVs, xbox, iPhone, Android, Chrome browser. I'm the only one where it's really slow on my phone.

Can you try lowering the in-app quality setting and see if that helps? The bitrate could just be too high for the network connection. Thanks !
