Problems skipping ahead while connected remotely

I tried to search first to see if anyone was talking about this, but I don't think I'm finding the right keywords to use - all my results are about just connecting in general. 

I'm running into an issue when I connect to my server remotely from my Android phone via the Emby app. I can connect without trouble, and can start a movie or TV show at the beginning, but if I try to skip ahead 10 or 20 minutes into the program, it just stops playing. I can back out, so it's not frozen, but it will ONLY start playing at the beginning for some reason. It also seems like it doesn't always remember the place in the show I'd stopped when I was watching from another device. I connect via my Android phone and Android tablet. If I come back in on the same device, so far it seems fine, but I'm guessing that the "saved" point is stored locally rather than on the server?
