The latest version on my Samsung TV is 1.8.0. Has any version been released after 1.8.0 on the store ?

For some models, yes. Samsung approves and rejects separately for each model year and family, so there is quite a variation.

It's not related to your problem; I just want to ask because my TV is old and may not be receiving updates. The latest version on my TV is 1.8.0. Thanks. This means that your TV has updated to tizen 8 and Samsung will catchup the app version in the next round of updates, whenever they occur.
Gambitason 5 Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) @kakashi55It is already answered but wanted to let you know anyway my tv also has the 1.8.0 version installed. frustrating that samsung takes so long to validate an application. Thanks for the information. Lets hope they will update it next year (tomorrow) lol Edited December 31, 2024 by Gambitason 1
Gambitason 5 Posted June 4, 2025 Author Posted June 4, 2025 It has been 6 months now and my app is stuck at 1.9.0. this is very frustrating because the av1 playback still is not working correctly because of this. I have people using emby that do not know how to install the emby beta app and i don't believe that is a good solution. Is there a way I just can force transcoding on my server for the AV1 codec? My server hardware should be able to handle that.

The update for older models is still in Samsung review.
Gambitason 5 Posted June 4, 2025 Author Posted June 4, 2025 Man that sucks. I want to use emby but I am stuck using plex then.

Gambitason 5 Posted June 4, 2025 Author Posted June 4, 2025 I want a media platform that supports all clients I use and is able to play all my video's without any problems. Sure I know plex has its bad sides but at least it can play all my media. I support emby and got the lifetime subscription but it has not worked correctly for me, so I can't stop using plex. I hope Emby will work some day, but to be honest it has been a disappointment so far.

When there is a new OS or model release, such as Tizen 8, Samsung extensively test the app against all affected models, and this can take a long time, which has been the case this time around. It is out of our hands in that respect. Every year/model has 5 or 6 variants to test, so even new app releases on current OS's takes some time for Samsung to process. This round has been particularly long, but all we can do (which we constantly do) is to push Samsung to keep it moving, without being an irritation and having the opposite effect! Thanks for your patience, I agree that it has been frustrating.

You can wait for Samsung to push the update or install it via USB. Even for non-tech people, it’s really easy—just put the files on a USB stick and plug it into the TV. It will install automatically.

I get that this problem is partly the fault of Samsung. but the reality is that I have an app that is working (plex) and one that is not (emby). Lets hope that a new version is available some day and that I can try to start using emby.

Yes the install is not that complicated but preparing the usb stick every month is a hassle. If jumping through hoops was an option I would have gone with jellyfin instead of emby. 1

The new version is coming, I've prompted Samsung again to keep it moving, many models have now been released to the store, but not you model yet.
Gambitason 5 Posted June 11, 2025 Author Posted June 11, 2025 I received the update to version 2.1.0 today. We can finally play av1 files on a Samsung client Is there only an update for Samsung clients every 6 months? If not what happened to version 2.0?

We submit updates regularly, but Samsung only accepts updates for models that are four years old or less. We had to beg and plead with them to get them to allow us to publish this update for all devices. Because of that, we can't promise that Samsung will accept updates for older models going forward. Obviously we will try our best to get them to allow us to do that, but ultimately that's out of our control. And unfortunately, as we get closer to 2026, they may stop accepting updates for 2022 models.
Gambitason 5 Posted June 12, 2025 Author Posted June 12, 2025 (edited) I will think twice about buying a samsung tv in the future. It is concerning to hear how samsung handles support on their platform. my next tv will need to be on an open platform like android. I am happy that the update is now active and I hope to start using Emby so that I can dump plex. Thank you. Edited June 12, 2025 by Gambitason 1 1
