Issue with some connections getting "stuck" and hitting stream limit

I've been having some of my users reach their streaming limit of 2 when they only have 2 devices.  This has been happening to the same two users and both of them have a Roku TV as one of their devices so the Roku may or may not be related.

The particular user I've been trying to help tonight has a Roku TV and an Amazon Firestick and their account is set to a maximum of 2 streams, so it should not be possible for them to receive the "Your account has exceeded the maximum streaming limit set by the administrator" error.

I've attached a server log.

The user told me that they are able to watch livetv but when trying to play some shows, they were getting the maximum streaming limit error.

There is a connection from their firestick that doesn't seem to want to go away.  It shows them as having a paused livetv connection from their firetv but they are not using the firetv and the emby app is not open on their firetv.  I am not able to "stop" the connection from my end.

I've had another user with a Roku TV tell me similar situations where they say they can stream livetv but they can't stream anything from TV Shows without getting the error.

Just a quick update that I noticed. I was watching the dashboard and I noticed that their connection from the Roku is flashing back and forth between two different LiveTV Channels on the same device which is not possible so my guess is that Emby thinks there is two connections from that same device and then also the hung up connection from the FireTV which is why theyre getting the maximum connections error when they only have 2 devices....

Updated log attached

Known issue, dev's are looking into it.

Restart of Emby server should clear out stuck streams.

Thank you brother, just glad its not a problem on my end.  Seems crazy that they said they are aware and have a solution 7 months ago, no?

Try this.

Ask the user to stop playing the stream as opposed to backing out of playing and see if that makes a difference.

@Jay1911 has this helped?

Won't know for sure for a while, it only happens once every few weeks but it's something that has been happening periodically for several months, if not since the very start of Roku devices accessing my server I just haven't reported the issue until now.

  • Thanks 1
