nanuk 36 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Hi Emby Team, I know there are already many threads dealing with subtitle issues... i just have a simple question... why does the "LG Emby App" encode the video when selecting PGS Subs while "LG Plex App" does direct play on the same file an the some pgs subs selected? imho this cannot be an LG Prob. Luke 42077 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Hi, the LG video player does not support these natively. We're aware that other player has built a way to render the PGS subtitles client-side, so that's something we can look into implementing, but as mentioned, since the player doesn't support them it's not just something that can be turned on.
daedalus 434 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 (edited) so we have here another topic emby has made zero progress in over a year now one can just wonder how the others were able to just "turn it on" Edited September 4, 2025 by daedalus

This is something that we'd also like to do, but there is no magic switch to just "turn this on".
daedalus 434 Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 the point is they cared and so found a way 2

Great work going on with Emby. By the way, are developers forced to use the native player to playback content? Or does LG allow you to code in a custom player?

It is not possible to embed a custom player, however for both LG and Samsung, strategic partner apps are granted access to lower level API's that other apps are not able to use. Hopefully that's how this was done. 1
